I am a browser junkie. On my primary machine, I currently have installed and running...

IE 7 and 8 FF 3, 3.6 and 4 Opera (10, I think) Chrome Safari Lynx

So that's NINE browsers I'm using regularly.

At this point, pretty much ALL the not-IE browsers are very good. They're also all free. Try 'em, and keep using the one you like best. You're not out anything at all. Not even time, since you were going to be surfing the net anyways.

Here's the breakdown: IE 7 blows less than the total catastrophe that is IE6. IE8 blows less than IE7. IE9 blows less than IE8, but still lags a bit behind good browsers.

Chrome and Safari are both based on the Apple's Webkit engine, and are pretty much the same under the hood. They are the fastest, most advanced, just plain bad-ass browsers around. Of the two, I'll give the nod to Chrome, though, because Google's release and feature cycle is a bit more aggressive.

Firefox was the "Good browser" for years, but has kinda lost the thread. They're not innovating like they used to, and the webkit browsers are now faster, more stable, less bloated, etc. That said, FF is still a very good browser, and miles and miles better than IE6. Plus, Firefox's extension system is the real ace in the hole. There's a whole ecosystem there of browsery awesomeness.

And yeah, while you're mucking about, add some RAM. Nothing will make as much of a difference.

And that. Firefox out of the box may not be quite what I want, but I can make it do all kinds of cool E36 M3.

i like Firefox, but the latest update looks kinda fruity to me.. it still works just as well as or better than the older versions, but i don't like the layout and general look and they don't have a "classic" skin available. but i'm also kind of weird in that i'm running Vista and have it set up to look and operate pretty much like WIN98.

I'm another Chrome fan, mostly because it maximizes the amount of space given to the webpage viewing area. On other browsers, the navigation buttons take up space 100% of the time, but are useful maybe 0.001% of the time. Keyboard shortcuts are a lot faster.

+1 on the space, I used to hate using SWMBO's laptop, it seemed like a 1/3 of the screen was wasted.

Another plus with Chrome is the ability to synch your bookmarks across any computer that you use chrome on. Plus if one tab freezes up or crashes, the others stay running.

I am using FF on a netbook along with the Theme called Classic Compact. As the name implies it is a traditional look with back buttons, home keys adress bar and google quick search but in a format that does not hog a lot of screen space.

Any other add-on recommendations or endorsements?
