Is a Rolex anywhere near as good as it's hype? I'd love to have one , but can't get over the cost. A Timex really does the same thing.

Depends on what you like in life. For me it was not the money I just liked the history of the 5513 sub and it is indestructible so I bought it. It has been serviced a few times and will last until I die provided I don't do something stupid. Plus its a good conversation starter when one of your clients speaks "watch".

I will say they are definitely on the cheaper side for a dress/sport watch when you compare them to say a AP or PATEK. Why anybody would pay 10-15K for a basic AP or 40k+ for something like a "end of days" is beyond me. Pateks I have a weakness for through. In my external business I see super high end watches on almost all of my clients so I try to keep abrest of what is cool and new in the watch world so I can keep up with the conversations when they turn to watches. Also its amazing how often you can get a good read on someone when you sit down to talk when think about the watch they wear.

I will say that I was offered a 5130R Patek in trade for my 5513 one day with a good bit of cash from me and its really the only thing I would replace mine with. They always say "you buy a rolex for your clients, you buy a Patek for yourself.
