Mazdeuce has been my enabler for 3+ years now...
Meeting him was the single best thing to happen to me.
What he did for me on the EF. He lets me come use the grosh sometimes for Houston autocrosses.
He and Tim letting me tag along for OLOA 2019.
Seth inspected Hazmat cause I was 300 miles away from it. The list goes on..
I enabled myself into a $150 jet ski that runs. It still needs work, though.
My brother moving to RVA has been very enabling to me... Have picked up 2 more miatas and an e30 this calendar year. All three with his encouragement and volunteering to help pick up. Flipped one of the miatas which allowed for the e30.

Sorry for that. But not really.
On the flip side, I did One Lap the first time because a friend said I should. I'm a couple of hours away from riding motorcycles (small ones) on track for the first time because an autocross student of mine sent me a note saying he bought some leathers that didn't fit him and he thought they'd fit me. I'm getting him back by pulling out my old rack of trad climbing gear.
Keeping friends like this around is key to an interesting life.
The boat in the original post may require extraordinary measures to save. We've not pulled the floor yet, but I'm not hopeful. I've advised him I wouldn't be hurt if he walked away from it.
Sometimes you gotta enable people to walk away from a losing bet, too.
