I currently use site ground for hosting. They're alright, but I just got a notification that my domain price and hosting price are going up quite a bit next year, despite my lack of traffic.
I run a WordPress install on their system, and would like to be able to just transfer everything to a new hosting provider, I just don't know who.
I'm currently paying $200/year for their basic package, but it's looking like it's going to hit 300 next year, and since I mostly use it for hosting pictures, that's a bit much.
So.. Any recommendations or places to stay away from?
I've got until January to change, so plenty of time to look around, but I'd like to handle this sooner rather than later.
What sort of hosting do you need? Someone to provide you with a pre-configured Wordpress install to point your domain to, the full DIY (manage the server and Wordpress) or somewhere in between?
Traffic also plays a big role as that determines how big and fast the server needs to be.
I prefer to go the most painful route of maintaining everything and am currently in the slow process of moving my stuff from RootBSD to Vultr. I think you'd be OK with any of the big ones like Bluehost, DigitalOcean or Vultr if you decide to go that route.
Personally I don't like having my hoster also look after my domains, so I have my domains registered via Hover.com.
There are a bunch of Wordpress hosters out there (even wordpress.com does Wordpress hosting), so that might be another way to go. Easiest way I found to move Wordpress was basically a backup/restore of the database and copying over the other assets like pictures. That said, I've been looking into moving my Wordpress stuff to Jekyll to reduce the attack surface, but I'm still looking into comment systems...
It's pretty DIY but I use Hurricane Electric. $10/mo and has been for a very long time. Domains registered through tucows.
Edit: Just noticed their cheapest current plan is $25/mo. Apparently I'm grandfathered in. Sorry for the false hope!
Blue host!!
That's why I couldn't find blue point.
I used to have a dozen Google ranking sites hosted through them and it was like 100/year. I couldn't find them again when I set up revs kitchen, guess I was looking for the wrong name.
I just bought the domain when I got the hosting because it was a free order, obviously not the best idea in hind site, but it worked at the time. I am allowed to transfer it to other places though.
Honestly, I think I need to sit down and look over everything to find out exactly what I have, and probably should have done that before I started the thread.
As far as traffic and storage, I'm averaging under 100 users a month, and I suspect those users are calls from here for pictures I have hosted and hot linked. So unless I get around to treating it like a proper website again, I can get away with bare minimum traffic and storage options.
Vultr has really small virtual hosts starting at $2.50 / month. I'm currently using a couple for testing, although I think those are not up to running WP. Haven't tried, but their $10/month offering might well be.
I use my buddy who runs AngryHosting and has for a couple decades. Downtime is nonexistent and you can host WP on there for $2.50 per month (the lowest price offering with a database, which you need for WP). I also put client's websites on there when they find out just how cheap it is.

They also do domain names for $10 per year.
Bluehost is pretty good, it's what I use for my own sites.
Work is on a dedicated Rackspace box, but that's a totally different pay grade.

There's https://qth.com/
A little more expensive than some of the others mentioned, but you get a proper SSL Cert for your domain, which is nice for email, etc.
Just a warning, Site Ground may ransom your domain unless you personally registered it, they may own it and lease it to you.
I use Pair.net somewhere like $12 a month, and I could host this forum on it!
In reply to Stefan :
While that it is a nice gesture, all one needs these days is Let's Encrypt for a certificate these days.

You generally don't really own a domain anyway, but "lease" it from the registrator. I don't know about the hoster you referred to but it's definitely happened in the past that the hoster would only release the domain after paying a "small fee". One of the reasons I keep hosting and domain registrations separate despite the higher cost.
