Who here has accidentally purchased a car.

My Volvo 1800ES was an accidental eBay purchase.  My ex- found it while browsing and sent it to me.  As a lark, I put in a low-ball bid. Then much to my surprise, that bid won.

They do sound awesome. I work for a large datacenter, and we run CAT 3516's (16 cylinder, quad turbo) attached to a 2.5 MW Generator as backup for our equipment if the utility feeds were to fail. The older style buildings each have 17 gen sets dedicated to them, while our newest generation buildings have 26. When they're carrying load, even for a load bank test, the sound is wild.

Not a car but a trailer.  I put in a low ball bid on a 24' enclosed trailer during an insomnia fueled, late night, browse of eBay and then promptly forgot about it.  I was totally surprised when I got the notification a week later that I owed $1,800 and needed to schedule a trip to Texas to pick up my purchase.  Not as surprised as my wife was however.  We don't normally make large purchases (or purchases of large items) without discussing it with each other.  Oops.

Yup, and its usually done at 10pm on a Friday night and with a couple cocktails in me.

When I was in college and working at Autozone, I had a customer come in all the time that had a 1979 Trans Am like I did. He asked me one day if I needed parts for mine and to stop by his storage unit. Shortly after arriving, I had bought a big pile of parts and a rare Tenth Anniversary Trans Am with a 400 and 4-speed manual for $500. Basically got 1.5 cars for $500. I used the parts and sat on that car for about 6 years doing absolutely nothing and sold it for $2k and another pile of parts.

If I had hung onto that car longer, I could have sold it for more than double that, but I was happy with the return on my investment. Again, I never turned a single wrench on the thing!
