I'll be happy as soon as my fiancee decides on a new car and she stops stealing my car
Unsatisfied.
I am driving a 2004 Dodge Stratus 2.4L auto with bad tires and the wife has a 2001 Dodge Caravan 3.3L auto, both vehicles have about 85K on them and have been painless to own.
I would have a third car right now if I had the space to put it, I would most like a lightweight sleeper sedan with a bunch of grip and torque. Maybe a V6 swapped Escort sedan with 15x8" 949Racing UL6 wheels and a set of grippy tires.
Moderately happy....I have a DD '99 Miata, a '71 240Z in process of restoration, and the wife drives a Honda CRV. I would like to add a nicer daily driver and turn the Miata into a more hardcore play car. I'm getting old and have a long drive to work so something like a M45 is appealing...can't believe I just said that!
I am so so right now. I just picked up a 06 Mercedes R-350 for my wife and the three kids, drove it back from VA and it is very nice but the wheels on it are buggin me. With my wife having the Merc now I will get her 03 9-5 Aero, 5spd and much more to my liking but not soul sturring like my Alfa, which it looks like I will be selling soon . Then there is my 64 Spitfire, my very first car, DD for a while but the Ohio weather has not done it any favors. It has been sitting in my garage for the last 8 years begging me to start working on it but I haven't. Hopefully letting the Alfa go will get me going on the Spit, it is strange not haveing something to work on.
So aside from a "fun" car to drive things are good.
Not I.
Currently, i have my 2.Slow Jetta, the Lotus in pieces, and a Swift in my dad's possesion. The Passat Wagon that i finally was able to purchase was traded almost instantly after i got it to a friend for 2 cars: A 1980 Volkswagen Caddy Truck and a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8t. From there, i have traded the truck to my co-worker who, in return, is going to build me a badass big turbo 1.8 for the Jetta. So now i have 2 Jettas.
I really want another BMW so bad! A E30 or E36 would make this Panda verrry happy...
I have never been happy with my car situation... ever. There is always something else I want.
Right now I have: 92 Camaro RS, 04 Jaguar X-Type, 07 SAAB 9-3
I like the SAAB quite a bit, but my wife gets to drive it to work every day. The X-Type has been really pissing me off. While I still like the way it looks, I'm starting to suspect it just isn't a quality car. I'm actually toying with the idea of parting with it. The Camaro just kind of hangs around.
I'm real happy with the cars I have currently, but now my problem is time....it's very hard to find the time to work on and maintain 20+ cars and motorcycles while working full time. I'm also working on a couple of major projects. I keep thinking about thinning the heard, but I like them all and instead keep adding to the fleet as opposed to selling off.
06 Mazda 3s hatch - 5 speed. LOOVVVE it. I grew up on small cars and this one is the funnest I've owned. I've added some light mods to give it a little more of a sporty feel.
Yes and no. I love my little Civic. It is a great commuter and fun on the back road. But I want a second car to play with that doesn't need a complete resto like my two Midgets.
Pleased.
'00 Miata daily driver.
'69 MGB summer car
'09 Chevy Express van tow vehicle
'67-'78 Spridget vintage race car
And another project vintage racer that's coming along nicely.
Pretty content here:
I'd be much more content if the driver's side seat in my truck wasn't wet when I drove it to/from work today. Hopefully the rain will end soon so I can get it caulked!
I'll be happy when my wifes Tundra, and my daughters Mazda3 are paid for....in 2012 just in time for the poxyclips
I'm somewhat happy.
2008 Saturn Astra XR 5 door manual transmission - Happy... Very happy.
1992 Nissan Hardbody regular cab with half a bed and a 5 speed - Wish it were either a Wrangler or a 4x4 with a whole bed.
1989 Honda Accord 5 speed coupe - I wish it were finished and streetable. Right now, it's in need of about $500 of work and some tires.
If they would quit needing peridic maintenance I would be happier..... but over all I'm very pleased.
2000 Accent GL 5-spd. 173k miles. Wife's car, colder than the north pole A/C, drive's good and gets her 35-40mpg.
2002 Elantra Sedan 5-spd. 118k miles. My car, former auto-x queen and a great midrange cruiser. aAnything over 900 miles one way starts to get old though.
1994 Swift GT. 202k miles Crude, obnoxious, rough and loud. What's not to like?
2006 GMC Crew Cab 2WD. 46k miles Tow rig, long distance cruiser. Comfy, quiet and strong. 24mpg unloaded, 17 towing. Couldn't ask for better.
The only payment is on the CC, and it was a 0% interest loan. It will be paid off in 2 more years.
Perfectly happy with my current cars:
1988 scirocco - perpetual project 1996 328i - daily driver/track mouse 1996 M3 - parts donor and cash source
I typically keep one daily driver, one project and one parts/flip car.
I'm happy but always looking
1990 sawzall miata for autox (currently getting a turbo)
1990 Miata winter beater
1997 Miata summer DD
1990 parts miata
1992 MPV - loking to sell
1998 F250 tow vehicle
2002 protege 5 (wife's car)
1962 Jag E type (long term project with dad)
1961 Austin A60 pickup (really long term project)
I'm currently looking for a mini-stock car to go roundy round racing with. I would also like to add an e30, 318ti, or 540i/6 and a c5 z06. I could probably use a good offroad vehicle and another motorcycle too. If I got those and a wrx, crx, lsx FD, cayman, s2000 and an an elise, I would be set.
Good gawd some of you have as many cars as I have beer bottles accumulating on the table! lol
Anyway, I'm pretty satisfied, but as always there are wants (which I like to call needs)
86 MR2 - Love this car, but it requires a lot of attention. If I could keep it on jackstands for a couple of months I could probably sort through everything that needs to be done, but it's my daily driver for now so progress is slow. Other than that, since I refreshed the entire suspension with balljoints, tie-rod ends, poly bushings, koni yellows, and some eibach springs I've been gleefully learning it's new limits. It just feels so different in every way to almost any modern car that I'm totally smitten with it. Of course I wouldn't mind a Elise, but I can't say I'm unhappy with my "poor man's version". Future plans include moving from STS to CSP with 4AGZE swap. We'll see . . .
99 Integra GSR - This car just does everything well. It's easy to drive, relatively quick, and the handling is athletic and predictable, if not razor sharp (stock suspension). It serves as our road trip car and the German shepherd-mobile. There's actually quite a bit of room for the 90lb dog back there with the seats folded down! Makes for some interesting reactions on the street when he pokes his giant head out the window. That said, the stock suspension needs to be replaced. It's not bad, nor are the dampers blown - but it's tired and the bodyroll shows it (not that it was very flat from the factory). Thinking about some Koni FSD struts since it's our "comfy chair" car. Maybe some Type-R springs. Something mild and worry-less.
My only question is whether or not to go down the slippery slope of a 3rd car. Like I said I'd love to be able to keep the MR2 on jackstands for more than a day. Also, when one of the cars eventually need to be serviced - I'll be able to do it myself on my own schedule rather than relying on a shop because I have to actually work for a living that day. I've spent so may nights cursing under one of the cars without enough light because we absolutely had to have both cars functional the next day.
I'm thinking something bigger than either car we have now - specifically a wagon with a manual transmission. Subarus and Volvos come immediately to mind, but that's a whole 'nother "what car" thread.
Meh.
Celica - Needs work and finished. Losing motivation. Love the car, don't know if i have the heart to finish it. Picked a terrible time to realize that... $8k later, i might be able to sell it for $3k.
Escort - Great car, will probably keep it around, but it's got some REALLY annoying issues right now. Most of which will be fixed with the installation of a BPT.
MX6 - Love/hate. Pain in the ass. Handles like crap. Comfy. Loud. Fast as hell. Completely in your face and obnoxious. Easy to work on. Reliable. Surprisingly decent gas mileage. Hard to drive. I don't love the car, but on days when i'm in the mood for it, i definitely don't want to get rid of it. The rest of the days, it gets a solid MEH.
Starting to have serious urges for another Honda frankenstein n/a build, and a Miata.
I'm mostly very happy with my car situation. As others have said, all are paid for, and that's 80% of the battle right there.
2003 325i (my daily), 62k on the clock - love it; mostly clean but going to need suspension refurb and a complete fluid replacement this year, but I expect to still be driving it 6 to 8 years from now.
2004 TSX (wife's daily), 32k on the clock - love it; clean and needs nothing, and at the current rate of mileage accrual we'll never need to get rid of it (or at least not until she really wants a different car).
2002 Subie 2.5TS (daughter's daily), 72k on the clock - like it a lot; mostly clean and needs some minor touchup from PO; runs well enough and if she plays her cards right Daughter #1 can still be driving it 6 to 8 years from now.
2000 Grand Caravan (utility battle bus), 60k on the clock - like it a lot; not terribly clean but gets almost no wear and tear and does absolutely anything assigned to it. At current usage I don't expect to ever have to buy another one, since it lives in the garage and gets >5k a year on it (knocks wood concerning accidents).
1967 Pontiac LeMans ragtop (family heirloom), 270k on the clock - like it a lot; but here's the problem: I never drive it. It was bought new for my mother in '66; I inherited it in '81 and it was my daily for 10 years. Since then it has sat in the garage under a cover and driven a few days a year. It needs a lot of general sprucing up and rust repair that I just have NO interest in doing because I'm not interested in really driving it as it should be driven. If it would magically turn into a semi-clean E36 M3 with half the mileage, or a decent '94 Miata and a small pile of FM parts, I would be utterly ecstatic with my car situation. I really want a dedicated track day / autox toy, and the Poncho is just never going to be anything but a cruiser. I should sell it to someone who will fix it and drive it, but I'm emotionally invested without being intellectually attached. In the meantime it sits there in the garage stiffening up and quietly rusting, a fate which it does not deserve.
So I guess I'm 80% happy with my car situation. Anybody want to help me get 100% happy?
I mostly am. I love my 2000 Protege, but I want to go further with the suspension. Right now I have MP3 springs and Illumina struts on it, but I'd like to go lower with a set of H&Rs or maybe coilovers. Going that low would prevent driving my car in the snow - the MP3 springs lower the car just under an inch, and I had quite a bit of underbody scraping while driving through snow this year. So, I need a winter beater.
We're looking at getting my GF a used TDI Beetle in a year or so. Her current '96 Sentra would get demoted to beater/backup duty. I threw a set of GR2s on it last July and added Sport Edition wheels with all season Khumos. Springs are stock and will stay that way, but beefier antiroll bars wouldn't hurt.
Current projects are my old 95 Metro and my 94 Ranger. There are just enough parts available to put together a cheap coilover setup for the Metro. Also, you can't beat the 47mpg I used to get.
The Ranger will be a bit more involved. I want to replace the 3.73 7.5 inch axle with a 4.11 limited slip 8.8 from an FX4. The gear change will let me run 235/75-15s. I want to replace the bed with a flatbed. I'm also considering replacing the EEC-IV ECU with a Megasquirt and turbocharging the twin-plug 2.3. I half thinking about swapping to a '98 or later frame (they're pretty inexpensive) to get the better double A-arm front suspension rather than the ancient I-beams.
So yeah, fairly happy with the current fleet. Good stuff to drive and good stuff to work on. I figure having projects is part of people like us being happy, right? :)
I guess I'm happy. The AE92 goes fast, the Samurai goes anywhere. I just don't know if it's worth putting too much more work into them as I may have to sell them soon.
I'm pretty happy. My RX-7 is back home. Right now it needs a battery and I need to get the intake manifold off so I can do a little work underneath there, but it should be ready in time for this season's first autocross. Since I've bought it, I've put a lot of work into it, but never once has it left me stranded or made me feel unsafe. Take THAT, rotary-haterz!!1!
I LOVE my Mazdaspeed3! I've put close to 9,000 miles on it in the 5 months I've owned it, and it hasn't so much as hiccuped. It's fairly stealthy, the turbo is addicting, and having all that hatch space helps immensely since I have to cart around a lot of stuff sometimes.
Once the RX-7's battery comes in, I will be splitting daily-driver duties between the two cars. My main issues haven't been with the cars but with recent bad weather delaying maintenance and parts taking forever to come in.
NEVAHR!!!, but the'09 FIT satisfies every need, but few desires. The Bugeye is a lifelong dream. The Swift GTi is a hell raiser that no one has to know what I'm up to, but still my head swims with Subaru powered Ghias, Starlets, LSx Miatas & RX7's, Sr20 DET powered anythings. Then there's the days I have a wandering eye...
