Not really...

Between my g/f and myself, we have 7 cars... 6 running... 2 MINI's, a Spitfire, a Volvo 1800ES in nice condition, my 1800ES is rusty, disassembled condition, my 260K mike '95 Cummins... and my 210K mile '03 TDI wagon... so many interesting and fun to drive cars... and what do I have to auto-x with?

The TDI...

So no... I'm not really very happy with my car situation.

If I had two MINIs and a Spit, I wouldn't be autocrossing a VW wagon. I'm just sayin'.

I'm a little itchy with my daily driver but more than content with my fun car...

I love my 350Z... Pretty soon, it'll have a new set of anti-roll bars on it.

The 2.Slow Jetta... meh. I've come to the conclusion that it needs to be one of the following:
- e36 BMW 325/328 sedan manual
- P71
- Capice w/ police pkg

E30 M3, E36 M3, Birkin S3, VW GTI 16v.

I guess I feel.....Greedy...want Lotus Type 111. Then I'll have one less car than I really need.

If only it were that simple... Clif notes version: When my g/f decided she wanted to try auto-x last year, I said to myself, "berkeley. This will not end well..." Unfortunately and despite my best efforts to be wrong, I was right. End result: I'm autocrossing a diesel wagon...

Now I'm even more curious. Did she wreck both minis and the spit autocrossing? Jeezus.

I've got all the cars I want and it's a strange feeling...like, "now what?"

  • 97 Boxster (my "real" car)

  • 72 Super Beetle (my first car/albatross)

  • 94 Bronco (tow/plow truck)

  • 01 VW Cabrio (wife's car/satisfies my strange need to always have some water cooled VW torturing me)

Now I just have to sell off all of the other junk in my yard to make the neighbors happy. Anybody need a 944 parts car or three ?

Not happy at all, but I doubt I ever will be. I would like to try one of everything.

03 Focus SVT: I treat it like I don't care about resale value. It never gets washed, I haul much more than is intended, from a motorcycle to hundreds of pounds of potatoes, and it gets an Italian tune-up just about every day. The temptation to haul a utility trailer with it has been rising for a while, but I haven't bitten the bullet yet.

No. She is extremely competitive and couldn't handle the learning curve of auto-x. She also couldn't accept that my DH-racing experience gave me somewhat of an edge over her in looking ahead, reading lines and memorizing a course. So she got really pissed when I would raw-time her in her modded MCS with my bone-stock TDI. Combine that with the SMF modifier and she would end up way down in the results in Novice PAX when I would be fighting for trophies. The part that pissed me off is I saw this coming from the beginning, try to warn her numerous times and was consistently ignored.

Depsite their sporty nature, a relatively stock Spitfire is not really much fun to auto-x compared to modern cars. Plus, the car is just modded enough to make it an ok street car, but too modded for HS. It also doesn't help that 13" tires choices are non-existant. So unless the car is EP or SSM prepped (which could happen in the future), it'll stay in the garage. More importantly, the car is hers, not mine. Ditto the nice 1800ES.

The 'other' MINI is a '07 'vert. I did run this car for the 2nd half of last year in HS and had plans to get better tires for this year. However, we own this car together (another long story) and we are considering selling it to help free up cash flow (it is the only car we are making payments on still) for home improvements (we each have our own house) as well as a possible BMW 850 purchase. So I/we don't want to put additional abuse on the car.

Things could change... but right now I'm stuck running the TDI and I get the 'cold' treatment whenever I go to an event. I can't even talk about auto-x.

OK, with the Saturn sold, that leaves me with a Miata and a B13 SE-R. I told my gf she might get to drive the Miata a little more now that I don't have to choose between the fun car and the boring car - now that both of my cars are fun. Yeah, you could say I'm happy. :)

Ha! I can RELATE. Pretty much the same thing happened when I took my wife to her first autocross. It would have been hilarious if it weren't so damn scary. She is also incredibly competitive - and when combined with a stubbornness to do additional course walks OR take it easy on the first run produced me having to tell her which way to turn on almost every gate. I genuinely feared for the corner workers. Luckily she learned from that experience and stopped being death-on-wheels on her subsequent runs. Unfortunately, the whole experience left a bad taste in her mouth.

The shame is that I know she has a lot of potential in her. She is an excellent driver and when her ego doesn't get in the way, quite capable. She did very well at one of those Mazda Autocross events (where you drive their cars), but I think because she didn't think it was a "real" autocross. lol

320k mile 91 Integra DD.

Rusty 87 Civic hatch that serves as a DD when the teg is "broke."

Stalled CRX project; waiting on funds/motivation.

Stalled Challenge Festiva. See 'CRX project.'

Had to sell the race car, truck, trailer, and Assploder last year (don't miss the assploder often, but it was nice to drive whenever my back gets all f'd up.)

So no, I'm not 'happy,' but my car situation has certainly been WAAAAY worse!

89 Nissan 240SX that's my "street legal" track car and My 91 GTI that is full of race parts from my last track car. I've "de-tuned" the VW to be my commuter, but it's still a 20 year old economy car and it's showing it's age. As much as I hate to sell the GTI that I bought from the original owner, I'm ready for a leather-clad auto sedan. Loud exhausts and stiff suspension gets really old on a daily basis...
