Wife just went to walmart for the Black Thursday stuff. Me I am home watching a movie with the dogs half comatose from dinner. Tomorrow I will be working all day and praying for a quiet day.

Me I am not sure I will go out at all this weekend. Though apparently Walmart will have the roku at $39. So might go pick one up as my mom's present. Wife just called and told me that she got the last wrist band for one of the things she was going for. I think I might be getting a PS4 for Christmas . Only thing I see on the wrist band list online we had even discussed.

Kinda nuts them starting on thanksgiving day at dinner time. I have most of my shopping done and the stuff that is left I think I will mostly get online. Even here in my little hick town I have noticed how nuts things get this time of year. I can't imagine the big city anymore.

Neither my wife nor me are big shoppers. I've done a little online shopping earlier today but that was mostly for stuff we would have bought anyway.

Other than that I refuse to patronize shops at times when their employees should be home and eating Thanksgiving dinner. Call me a European Socialist or something, but stuff like that really bugs me.

No thanks, you won't catch me at any shopping malls this weekend. I only like mosh pits at concerts.

I was out picking up some sriracha sauce this morning and went past the mall. The lot was absolutely deserted. Look at all that pavement...

I'm totally organizing an autocross there next year on Thanksgiving.

People gots to eat. They don't need 60" flatscreens and crap they only buy because it's 30% off.

I did do some Black Friday online shopping. Mini Mania always has sales, so I waiting for this one to buy my Mini transmission rebuild parts. If they didn't do this sort of thing, I would have bought it at full price when I needed it. So they kinda screwed themselves out of 15% right there.

Flyin' Miata is NOT having any sort of Black/Cyber/whatever sale, although we are passing along a discount from one of our suppliers. Online only, 'cuz you're not going to find anyone in the office tomorrow!

I haven't set foot in a brick and mortar store post October in 8 years. No way I'm joining the madness.

We drove through the parking lots of Best Buy and Target on the way home from dinner at the in-laws. Both stores were packed. I didn't even think the deals were that good this year, but people are sheep.

What about anyone else working a non-big box store? Police, Fire, Ambulance, gas stations, people in TV/Radio, call centers, etc.

There are lots of people that don't have the day off. I'm sure many people working low-wage retail jobs are more than glad to have the hours today vs having it off.

Say what you will, but swmbo and I have made a bit of tradition of black Friday. We make an itinerary, pack some samiches, a thermos of hot coffee, bundle up in layers, then head into the fray. We always have a good time, seeing what kinda deals we can find. Then after several shop till ya drop hours, we stop at a nearby diner, and eat some greasy delicious breakfast. After that, we head home, pass out till 1 pm Friday afternoon, and have turkey club sandwiches made from leftovers. I really have a good time with her, and she with me.

Well, I do try to avoid calling the fire department or the police on Thanksgiving as well , but I would argue that there is a bit of a difference between an emergency worker and someone who works at Walmart. With the former, you know when you sign up for it that you're dealing with shift work that doesn't care about public holidays; with the latter, there is more and more encroachment on the few days that people traditionally were able to take off. That I don't support personally because it does set a bad precedent.

And TBH, is closing for a day and then opening early the following morning really so bad for business that you have to open now at times when people tend to have a festive dinner?

We went to rural king after dinner and snagged a decent echo chain saw for a spare.....my future BIL wanted to hit best buy when they opened at 6 for a go pro hero black for $249.99......we were in and out of there in 20min. Then came home laughing at the Walmart being packed.

Berk no.

The nice thing about getting your ass handed to you in the meat department leading up to Thanksgiving is you get to coast on Black Friday. No one wants brisket when there are 3 big screen TVs to fight over.
