Interviewing Michael Bay
Of course he does. It's his thing. And sometimes, that's simply what you want to see. After a long day of dealing with idiots at work, sometimes I just want to see giant robots fight each other and E36 M3 blowing up. You want highbrow drama and thoughful comedies, there are other directors for that. I like the fact that there's ALSO someone out there that caters to the side of me that liked to put firecrackers into 1/24th scale car models.

I spent an hour one night watching youtube vids of some idiot burning down diecasts just like that. I have no idea WHY, but damned if I didn't. Start off as a small fire, watch it engulf the whole car.

You ever get pissed off when mythbusters puts a prefectly good, running, relatively clean looking, west coast example of an E30 or Miata into some contraption designed to demolish it in some interesting way? This is the same thing...It may be fun to watch someone blow something up, but dont blow up something I like, blow up a taurus...nooooo one likes those
Hey- I liked my Taurus. Not because it was a GOOD car or anything, but because I paid 100$ for it with the clear understanding it was set to die in less than 6 months. That was 2 years ago, and I just traded it- still running and driving, for a Jeep.

No. Not even when Michael Bay smashed up an E38 BMW (and I'm a huge fan of those, with my own 740iL and an owners group I started). I might get upset if I found out that they blew up an ultra rare classic car that can't be found elswhere, but usually even then, it's a crap example or a replica that gets destroyed.
I get more upset when they squeal the tires on dirt.
(Flame suit on)There is one movie that could be remade and kick butt. Keep the story the same, and give it good modern effects, a new RoboCop has potential. Doubly so considering the near post apocalyptic image modern Detroit has.

last movie I went to see was the new Tron Movie (thankfully not a remake, but a continuation of the original)
but, even though I worked in the industry, I lost all faith when I heard they were remaking Rocky Horror.... thankfully, it got shelved

[rant] Eh, it'd be all CGI and the violence would be all toned down. No shotgun dismemberment because guns are bad, Mkay? The 6000 SUX would be a pansy hybrid. ED209 would be armed with NERF blasters.
They've put out how many Saw movies and Hostel and Tourista but gun violence is taboo.
The original is a classic 80's time capsule. Cherish it (not the sequels) and hope against hope that some lame producer doesn't get the same idea you came up with.
Dirty Harry and Death Wish should also never be re-imagined for similar reasons. [/rant]

I'd actually consider buying that for a dollar..depends on who puts it together.
Full Disclosure: Next to last film I actually spent money to watch on the big screen was the Coen Bros. remake of "True Grit".

Could they remake Two Lane Blacktop? Anythings is a better actor than James Taylor or Denis Wilson. Even 2x4s. Even Nick Cage.
i think the world is just crying out for a new Beverly Hills Cop movie..
or how about another 48 Hours movie?
yeah, i think Eddie Murphy needs to be in more movies like the ones he did when he was just starting out.
but, no.. what do we get? a Michael Bay TNMT movie and an American Pie movie with the original cast reunited for a (13 year??) class reunion...
sigh..
The last thing I saw in a theater was Cars2. The last thing before that was Ratatoullie.
For home viewing, I just bought Fly Boys, The Red Baron, and Wings. (Yes, I'm on a WWI aviation kick right now. I'd really love to build a biplane.)
I read yesterday that Jessica Biel just signed on to do the 'Psycho' re-hash...and Scarlet Johannsen is doing the shower scene.
In reply to Appleseed:
No, they cannot remake Two Lane Blacktop. It's too obscure. Yes it's an excellent movie, in that typical odd independent 70's style. Not enough people now have heard of it to let alone justify spending money on remaking it.
We need to stop this thread right here though, before someone in Hollywood reads it and gets some ideas....
I've quit going to movies as well. I have a couple of theories as to why this has occured, but they are not universally accepted.
First, I was in TV production for a long time, and starting about 15 or so years ago there are a definite move to much younger executives. Not to diss on the young guys, but we have a different view of what it good or not at that age, and most decisions are not what you'd call "great".
The second is that while special effects have grown to spectacular heights, many film makers today think they can replace an actual story line. I simply do not go see any movie with overblown special effects anymore. Most are simply lame beyond comparison. Evidently character development doesn't matter anymore. And no, it doesn't have to be a chick movie.
And I am so, so tired of everything having a political slant. You get that with everyday life. Give me entertainment that has some actual thought put into it, a real story line, good production qualities, and real acting. Stop trying to convince me to take your cause.
OK, off my rant now...whew...

It wasn't in theaters though, at least not around here. Movies now just take themselves too seriously, Rubber was a nice change of pace in that regard. It's pure genius in its idiocy.
I've been meaning to see that, but just out of curiosity because I like Mr. Oizo's music.

I'm sorry for you. After you finish throwing up in disapointment, go out and get Blue Max and The Great Waldo Pepper.
George Peppard for the win!
Some VERY well shot flying sequences. Shot without music most of the time as I remember. The outside loop sequence still pops in my head from time to time.
Wings is awesome. First Academy award for best picture and deservedly so. The only feature length silent film I've ever watched.

I already had that. Definitely a good film.

I think video games are actually doing a better job with these sorts of things, especially story and character development. And you get the fun gun fights and 'splosions too! Script writing is usually better. Granted, they have more time to work with, but games like the Mass Effect series really do a good job making characters you can believe and care about, and putting them into situations that actually make you think.
Last movie I saw in a theater was Contagion. It blew. I cared more when Dom died in Gears of War than anything that happened to any damned character in that stupid movie. Kind of wrong that some serious drama evokes less sympathy from me than a game about guys chopping monsters in half with chain-saw guns.
Things will only improve as facial animation gets better, too.
RE: The original post...
Have you ever re-watched the stuff you watched as a kid? I loved Transformers (and still watch the original 1986 movie from time to time), as well as Thundercats, Silverhawks, TMNT, etc. Watch it now as an adult. The stuff is written for kids and it is terrible. Little attention to detail, cheesy repetitive plots, bad voice acting, etc. I love re-watching the stuff for the sake of nostalgia, but its hardly justifiable to say that people are "ruining your childhood" by producing Hollywood remakes of terrible low budget cartoons from the early 80s.
You'll need to log in to post.
