Why Riveras?

Why are Buick Rivieras (sorry about the typo in the title) the new cool?

Everywhere I go, I see those stupid stick-on fender vents on cars/suvs.

Today I saw them on: a V6 charger, a Mark IV GTI, numerous SUVs...

I really want to hook up a hole saw to my cordless drill and help these morons make them functional.

Is this happening anywhere else?

Yeah... I see them on civics, Camaros with their rims sticking out 6 inches from their fenders.

Usually accompanied by old English style lettering stickers.

And huge park bench wings.

Are we seeing a trend here?

Yes, but any aerodynamic savings is usually negated from the added weight of the lead and possible lightheaded status from the blood loss. IMHO the most gain is from the business end of a Sawzall.... Adds lightness too (much faster than Mother Nature but slower than the .38!)

What's ironic is a friend of mine drives a '95 Supercharged Riviera... and it doesn't have those stupid holes.

why not.. at least the Z3 fender vents seem to be dead. I never liked those.. even on the Z3

I think it was Bimmer that got crap really going. I like the M "fins" on the fenders. But when you put them on a SUV or some other peace of crap they just get tacky.

Now that they are becoming a bit more scarce, I'm starting to appreciate the 80's luxo-box cars a lot more. Like everything, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

eh...the only Buick's I like are the old Boat-Tail wildcats.

You get a lot more per round if you use buckshot. The tend to whistle tho.

and they are harder to line up in a row.. use a slug.

As an aside, the Vents in a Z3 are fake too.. not even the vents in the M versions were real

The first time I heard about the trend, I saw it spelled "scrayper". RI is littered w. them. I think I first read about the trend in a local paper's automotive section.

Yet to see any scraypers/scrappers/scrap metal on bling rims where I live. All the old man cars where I live are owned by old men. Plus the moonscape roadways will taco a dub like it was paper. The "vented portholes" tend to appear on dubbed-SUVs and some of the ghetto rice though.

Man, that was painful to read that sort of idiocy. And it was a 2 year old thread, too. Stock is best, imports suck, and a car that nobody effin wants is "ruined" because someone saved it to mod? Hell, they were "ruined" in stock form. A mass produced, designed by committee, uncompetetive car that didnt' sell to anyone that really knew cars, cannot be ruined when they get old, cheap and unwanted by the masses.

LOL, on the sf bay area craigslist it's always listed as scrappers. Scrappa on dubbbs mayn!!
