And I thought that being able to see was the major benefit to windshield washer fluid. I wonder what other nasty things could grow in a bucket of warm water with a convenient aerosol deliver system.

Do people in the US ever use just straight water??? Between the bugs in summer & cold of winter I can't imagine water being much use.

I've seen water used in the south. We had a couple cars come up to MI & the washer reservoir freeze & crack...

Also, its probably more prevalent in UK / Europe. The price of washer fluid is unbelievable over there - I dont recall the exact price, but I remember it being several euros for a liter....

huh. I've been using water with a bottle of 90% isopropyl alcohol in it for years. Doesn't freeze, cleans glass and costs like $.50 for 2 gallons.

Well, if you skip the scam of 'pre-mix' washer fluid it's not that in Europe bad unless you buy it at the local gas station or a really small bottle.

I can't quite see why people at least in the UK would put plain tap water into their washer fluid tank, I've got problems getting the grime off with some decent washer fluid...
