I've got about 30 min of power left on the laptop. We lost power about 8 this morning. The commute home last night was The Worst Evvarrr, normally 45 min, took me about 3 hours. Took about an hour to go one mile. It wasn't like driving on glass. It was like driving on oil on top of glass, even with my snow tires. Ice on the road, water on top of the ice. Today was the full on ice storm. It looks like Christmas Day on A Christmas Story. I took some pics but don't have time to up them now. I'm losing trees constantly. Sounds like rifles going off as they snap. Just missed the Rolla and the Camry. Camry is now in the garage and the Rolla and Truck are where hopefully the trees will miss them. Of course, I didn't go to work today. Not likely tomorrow either at this rate. Couldn't even telecommute when the power went out. We have all the critters in the house right now. The 2 dogs are outside dogs, but we put them in cages in the house, and one wild cat was convinced to come into a cage too. It is supposed to get down to 15 tonight. Got the wood stove cranked up as much as I can.
good luck doc.. keep warm.

Stay safe up there and good on you for watching out for the critters too.
Best wishes with every thing.
Make sure the flu dose not close on your fireplace, that happen to me once...
HOLY CRAP 15 DEGREES OMFG!!!
Western doesn't even cancel class unless it's about 15 BELOW.
Michigan Sux.
It started snowing at 3:00am, it's 7:00 now. We're supposed to get 10 - 14 inches by the time I drive home.
Remind me why I came to work again....

Got an email from a buddy in CT today. He's playing hooky to go ski in VT.
They should just give up and shut this damn city down.
The city of Indianapolis has 16 plows for the whole city. 16! That's it.
We've been getting dumped on since about 1pm yesterday, and it's supposed to continue through tonite.
Guess who's at work? Because in the health insurance industry, we aren't allowed to call in for the first two months of the year! AWESOME!
Guess who was dumb enough to actually take heed of that rule? Guess who fought their way here in a slammed Celica with Ventus RS2s on his car!
That's right. ME!!!!
Every other midwest office, and even VIRGINIA offices are closed for this company... why not mine? Why is this county not in a state of emergency?
Man. That's why I stay right here in the Durty South. It's times like this when I really do not care if the rest of the planet thinks I am a sister luvvin' redneck, at least I am not snowed in.
Keep the heat turned up, Hess.
Cincy has the same fate as indy...snow. more snow, sleet, freezing rain and now more snow. Ice was so thick my Husky was too light to break through. He was just sliding around all shaky and awkward looking. Do you know how funny it is to see a dog try to pee or poop while slowly sliding down hill? Hot damn I almost fell over. wish my camcorder was charged....$10K on funniest videos fo sho yo
We somehow miraculously missed the big storm. Went north and south of here, and we were the big midwestern donut hole. Still, it's friggin' cold

I didn't get the ice yet.... but it looks like the ice from Columbus, IN is on it's way up here. That'll be fun. The plows were making it worse here... they were taking the thick layer of snow off... and leaving some slippery packed snow/sand/slush.... which underneath was nothing but a big sheet of ice.
I wish i had seen that.... :( But i think i saw about the same thing in 1998 in Upstate new york when we got 4 inches of ice in one shot.
Roads froze last night with sub zero temps and then the storm came in and we got 2-3" of powder and it is like automotive ballet in front of the shop.
Crabin' about 15 for a low? C'mon Doc, don't be such a wuss! I've been stuck in some godforsaken hellhole Illinois for the last two weeks, and don't think I've seen 15 for a high. No power suxs though, you have my sympathies there. Time to pick up a mid size generator.
going to be 71 here today...
why did I bring a coat to work?
That's why I'm still in Daytona Beach, home got 8" last night, I just came up from laying on the beach
Wow, I just got back in from using the snow blower. We got it easy, only 3", not the 7"-12" predicted and its up to 30.

Major flounder potential spotted! Must...not...flounder!
Good thing it's far from freezing down here 'cuz the amount of water falling out of the sky this time of the year would bury us all if it was frozen. The AE92 wanted to go sideways when I hit a big puddle with 2 wheels yesterday. But having scorching heat all year isn't as appealing as it sounds so don't be jealous.
I'm on my other laptop now. Got about an hour of battery/internet dongle. Still no power. This is the worst ice storm in Fayetteville's history. I cleared the driveway and we took the Rolla to town today. Wally world was open, and Taco Hell (running out of food) and that was about it. The driveway was blocked when we came back home, but not too bad. We're still loosing limbs. It is really bad. Every single tree took damage or was wiped out. 100K homes with no power. Thank God that the water is on (knock on wood).
Tech Tips: Fill a cat litter pan (clean, preferably) with water. Place outside. Big cooler ice for tomorrow. Knock the icicles off the roof into your beer cooler: Cold beer. My hat light went out. Broken wire. Heat the pencil soldering iron tip with a butane pencil torch, Use that to solder the wires back together.
I need about a KW inverter. Maybe a little bigger. Then I could run it off a car/truck battery and get the refridgerator going. I'm worried about the hot tub. If it freezes and busts the PVC pipes, that sux. Otherwise, we're doing OK.
That's harsh. I have no desire to live in a place that gets snow. California is probably where I'll live for the rest of my life.

Got another 8" at home. At work it turned to a very cold hard rain which seems worse than snow. Some days I wish I had picked something inside instead of standing out there like an idiot.

I work for Georgia Power and I'm up in Louisville KY right now with about 440 lineman. I think Alabama power sent crews up to Arkansas to help with power restoration. I'm crammed into a single hotel room with eight other people trying to find rooms for the crews in an area where most of the locals have taken the rooms because their power is out. Nice and icy out there.
Up here in the great NE, act. upstate NY, our problem is finding places to put the snow. Oh well, I'm heading up to Tupper Lake tomorrow for two days of ice racing.
