I ran a phone line to my basement shop and set up and installed a wireless modem/router for my wifes new computer. It worked fine for 2 days then when I got home from work today the damn internet is down. I put the old wired modem on the same phone jack and it worked, once, then it too stopped working. I checked it at other phone outlets in the house and it didnt work there either. Tech support was called and they pinged the wireless router/modem and said the line was caput. I sceduled a service call for monday. Then when I was futzing around with it some more they both started working, for about an hour, then came back up with in seconds. This is a new house so I dont suspect any wiring issues. My wiring was removed from the equasion by trying other phone jacks.

I hate technology some times.

Loose connection in the line to your basement? If it's a cable modem, bad connector on the end of the coax? If you're not used to doing the connectors, it is fairly easy to get one piece of wire frayed in there messing things up.

I would suspect wiring. I had some wiring go bad overnight with no visible damage. Also had a case where an ethernet cable would not work running through the ceiling but once we ran it in the room proper it worked fine.
