Thanks.

I forgot to add a qualifier- would you go see this in a theater?  Not your local theater, but one at a specific location as the film would be shown as part of a film festival.

Only if it's within reasonable driving distance and definitely not if I need a plane ticket (so, practically, no cheeky)

No.

Edited to say, based on the description I'm betting it's probably done by somebody who knows nothing about circle tack racing and I'd probably be yelling at the screen saying something like 'that's not how it works, it's nothing like that' through the whole thing.

Probably entertaining for people who have never raced, but in the end they will sell the track.

If it were an hour long show on the History Channel, I would certainly watch it, but I'm 96% sure that I would not go to the theater to see it.

Thanks for the extra clarification- I think I should have added that.

It will be there either way.  There's just a question around it, if that makes any sense.  If enough would be interested, then that second question can be answered.

I am looking forward to seeing it but won’t be traveling there to see it. I am probably a bit biased having grown up an hour from there. I have friends that still race there and for a while I helped out a bunch of guys getting started in racing.   The track was sold about two years ago to a family that has been very involved in racing for a long time and they’ve been making improvements to the facilities but like every on Long Island it’s only a matter of time before the local government gets the right offer to make the track impossible to run and it will become another housing development or shopping center.

It would have to be local.  There is pretty much a zero percent chance of me driving more than 15 mins to see any movie.

I would watch it on Netflix or similar. Depending on the trailer, I may even be willing to pay a small fee to watch it.

I would not watch it in a theater, local or otherwise.

Yes, I would watch it. We see about 1 movie every 2-3 years in a theater, so netflix, prime, tubes of you, or streaming would be my most likely venue.

Only way I am going to see a movie in a theater, is if it has someone smoking hot in it, say Margot Robbie, and she is going to come to my house after the show and bake me a pie.

Oh, and she had better make a damn fine pie.

So it's been long enough to get some answers that I can explain more...

A year ago, at Cinetopia 2017, we sponsored "McLaren" which brought out a lot of car people that my wife and I had met over the years.  So since we are car people, we are kind of expected to lean toward the car movies.  So this one is being suggested that we sponsor it.

For us, "McLaren" is right in our wheelhouse- we are huge F1 fans, and I'm pretty sure I saw McLaren race at Mid-Ohio when was a small kid- but that's a pretty funny side story...  Anyway, it was a no brainer for us to support that movie for many, many reasons.

This one, I'm not sure.  While the story may be well done, heck any movie that gets accolades at Sundance tends to be really good, it's just not a subject that rings that well for us, in spite of the cars.  So I figured it would be a good idea to ask a group of people who came to watch our supported movie last year.

We've not totally decided for or against, as we've also not gotten the whole list of movies that are being shown.

Now, had this been a documentary about Dan Gurney, that would be a very different story.

I would not go see that in a theater, but I've only seen one movie in a theater in the past 3 years.  I would probably watch it on a streaming service that I'm already paying for...

It’s a tough call. Half of people here cringed at the thought of stockcar racing to begin with and the other half don’t watch movies outside their house.  You’ve got to depend on there being an audience of short track fans that will venture out to a film festival.  I don’t know how big a group that might be.

In reply to alfadriver :

if sponsoring a showing, make sure there is an after event/gathering/open forum with light food and refreshments and podium to discuss not just the film, but preservation of locations to compete in racing locally. invite local SCCA and NASA staffers out and local track owners and managers. Make it bigger than the movie and cultivate response based on the reaction to the exposure and realization that it could happen where you are next.
