Ran errands on the way home from work, drug store and grocery store, and both had Christmas displays up!!
Halloween isn't for 3 more weeks folks....
Could be worse. A few years ago I was mortified to find Christmas trees being set up at the hardware store...ON LABOR DAY! I complained to the manager.
Costco and Sams had Christmas stuff for sale right after the 4th of July.
That whole early Christmas thing irks the crap out of me. I walked into Wally World the day after Halloween and they were playing Christmas music. I'm getting ready to mount a one man protest.
The drug store near my work had back to school stuff and christmas stuff on the same aisle several weeks ago. I asked them where the halloween stuff was and they said they hadn't gotten it in yet. WTF

My local Home Depot started putting up their Christmas stuff the last weekend in August - they even beat the local Wally World.

I despise Christmas. I'm all for making it just about getting together with food.
With the economy the way it is, I guess the retailers are trying ANYTHING to make a buck.
I guess we will see a backlash against the ever encrouching christmas when the trees start going on sale BEFORE july 4

I saw a store ENTIRELY dedicated to Xmas, as I made a stop at the Mall of America ON the 4th of July. That was about when I gave up.
a store dedicated to christmas... are we really that sad as a people?

The man is right. I stumbled upon one once in my travels.... scarier than any halloween themed attraction you can imagine.

I hate Christmas music. I mean, really, if it were worth listening to, you aught to be able to play it year round, not just subject people to it during a single season. No other holidays get their own crappy music like Christmas.
Okay, New Year's has "Auld Lang Syne" (sp?), but that's something you sing at one moment, like "Happy Birthday", not make people listen to all month.
With Halloween has some monster/spooky themed songs, but people aren't going to look at you like a moron if you play "The Monster Mash" at a party in the middle of July.
Only Christmas song that's really worth while is the "Carol of the Bells", preferably by Trans Siberian Orchestra. That's cool enough that you can play it "out of season".

Hey now. There are some good Christmas songs out there. Christmas in Prison by John Prine, good anytime of the year. As is "Merry Christmas from the Family" by Robert Earl Keen.
The ONLY thing i look forward to is Black friday and seeing how much TV I can get for $500 .
I will listen to Jonh Denver and the Muppets X mas album once and will be set for the season. berkeley the rest of the music.

Christmas music makes me want to kill myself. Or someone else. Probably both.
I am ever so glad I got out of retail before it became defacto to play christmas music continously from October on..

Just like in math class, the correct order of operations is critical to success here.
You all need to listen to better Christmas music.

I guess that depends on your definition of success..... dead would mean not hearing it, though killing the right person could potentially stop it from playing.... going to prison would FOR sure make it stop playing,...... but I'd have to unload the ms3 and the Cooper S..... oh the conundrum.
there is better christmas music? I keep hearing the same crappy stuff (y)ear in and (y)ear out....
I will admit I'm actually looking forward to Christmas this year because of my girl friend. We are already kicking around ideas of what to get each other and others in our families because living in the sticks we only make it to civilization a couple times between now and then. Though I'm thinking of getting a netbook for my mom, she just started back at school and has been eyeballing them.
The last few years I have been fairly Scroogy and have not really celebrated much at all. To me the biggest thing is spending time with loved ones and having a great meal. Gifts are normally regulated only to those things that can actually be used by the person receiving them not the typical use it once stick it on a shelf junk.
