How do people that do stuff like this think it's to going to end?

As if criminal charges are going to make the situation better?

I dunno... they seem to have a revolving door for this kind of thing. Plead to misdemeanor disorderly conduct, agree to a protection order against you, and time served with a fine. I doubt prison time would help (it doesn't seem to deter any other idiots) but they don't seem to dish it out for pretty awful behavior with cars.

It would be nice to have more info on what was so wrong with the car that he wanted to return it ,

No idea if Utah has a Lemon Law or other consumer protection ,  But even if there is consumer protection it looks like he did not want to wait !

I am sure there is more to this story , still does not make it right what he did .

I "heard" that in Utah, "as is" is as is, and you have no options.  Basically like buying private party.  Clearly it looks like that guy was not aware of that.

I would think the dealership, and the guys in that room, might have a rather large claim against this guy.  Clearly he has some damages he needs to pay for!

As noted, something like this seems like a good idea, and many may have wanted to do it, but actually doing it ends up being really dumb and is pretty much all downside. Unless you are just in it for the internet points (which don't pay the bills generally).

Maybe launching a memecoin could pay for all this...

Had this happen at a repair shop in 1997.

Someone was going to drop a car off after hours for a brake issue.  He drove in the parking lot, hopped a parking curb and slammed into a parked car next door, then threw it into reverse and went full throttle, raising his hands like WTF???, and backed hard into our office, through the brick wall and into the lobby.

He had no brakes so he couldn't stop, you see.

Oh, and the police were already there taking a report after one of our managers had his car burglarized during the day, which is why we were there an hour after closing.  So, they saw everything.

He was very, very drunk.

So was his brother who arrived about five minutes later to pick him up after he dropped the car off.

...actually, I think I may be able to find the police report for that one.

Serious question here.

Has anyone EVER had a good dealership experience when buying a new car?

it's a never for me which is quite disappointing. Even with me being much older now, The game seems to much worse than it was a decade ago.

Absolutely. I've had good experiences at a Dodge dealer, an Acura dealer, a BMW dealer, two different Volvo dealers, and I forget who I bought the T&C from (used), but that wasn't bad either.

In fact, I've never had a bad dealer experience buying a new car... because if it's going that way I walk out before it gets anywhere near a sale.

I've had plenty. I've purchased at least 30 new vehicles, and really never a bad experience. It's an easy game to play most times if you are realistic about the outcome. If you think they're all cheats and have huge mark ups, you're not being realistic. I also don't care if the guy down the street got "a better deal" than me because it won't affect my life if he did.

Bob Jass Chevrolet in Elburn, Illinois.

We ordered a 1994 Chevrolet S10 Blazer on the GM Employee Discount plan (18% discount on base price and 15% discount on options).

Bob used to sell us our work vans and it went smoothly.......

Great dealership experience the only time I ever participated, 37 years ago. Volvo of Daytona Beach. Small dealerships with good product often have good service too.

Define "good experience".

I've had some "not terrible" experiences, both of them more recent. Both on later model used cars (I don't buy new). One of the most painful experiences was buying a '76 Ford Courier off the wholesale line at a Honda dealer once, but that was in the 1980s. I go in expecting "annoying" and if it's better than that, I guess it's "good". If it falls below "annoying" I just leave.

Wow, that's a lot of cars.

The thing I wonder about the original post is why someone was taking a video of the showroom - did they have advance warning that guy was going to drive through the front door?

I did last month buying my first ever new car. Audi Wilsonville was amazing beginning to end. No pressure, no gimmicks, no BS. We were done in less than an hour. When our trade in got listed for sale for less than $2k over what they gave us for it, it was the cherry on top.

I hope to buy many many more cars from them. We got started by discovering that their service department was absolutely worth driving past 2 other dealerships for.
