My son bought a SAAB 9-5 Aero wagon from a friend of mine last Sunday. Because it's soooo nice, great history, lots of new parts, Ian paid the top end of the price band.
He got home from work at 1:15 this morning, the car looked so good it made him smile.
At 6:00 he had to take his wife to a doctor: "Honey, did you move the car?"
Rats.
This kid's lived in Atlanta, Flushing, Queens, L.A.; he even survived living two blocks away from Fenway with NY plates on his car.
Now he lives in Mayberry, who the hell steals SAAB wagons?

with parts for modern saabs getting scarce... I bet they are going to start getting stolen more often
'Who steals a SAAB wagon?'
Looks like people in Mayberry steal SAAB wagons.
Sorry to hear about that, Dan. Hope he gets it back quick!

Woah. I guess I'd better start locking my garage. I'd hate for all of my worthless older SAAB E36 M3 to start disappearing.
The car has/had On Star. I told Ian to have the cops call On Star, even if it isn't activated they mayt be able to find it.
Or not ....
OnStar should be active regardless if he's subscribed to the service.
Hope they find the car. That blows hardcore.
Onstar did advertise that one feature is the ability to track a stolen car, even kill the engine if theres a chase. I think it only works if the system is energized tho...a chop shop probably wouldnt leave the battery installed while they hack up the car for parts and scrap.
Sorry bout your boys luck Dan - that really is (was?) a pretty good looking car.

Depending on what year that is, OnStar may not be able to communicate with the unit in it. I believe it was my dad who told me that the OnStar setup in his '01ish Silverado was now obsolete.
That really sucks. One of the things I always liked about SAAB was that they were one of the least stolen cars, oh well.
I hope they find it.
WTF!?!![](/media/img/icons/smilies/unhappy-18.png)
May the thief burn in hell.........

Didn't you say in the past that the neighbor has a no-good kid?
Do you think it was driven away or towed away?
How easy is it to bust the lock cylinder on a Saab, if driven away?
Who could have had keys or keys made? Did it spend any time out of his hands like at a shop recently who might have access to making keys and access to address?

What market was it stolen in? I can put a CL search together for Saab wagons and Saab parts.
PS: congrats on the neighbor moving.
from what I understand.. lose the keys on a saab and you need a new computer.. there is no recoding keys (at least on the old NG 900s) So I imagine somebody either had a key or it was towed
After seeing one of those Repo programs, I'm going with towed. An F-250 with a tow hook that lies down in the bed; driver hits a switch the tailgate flops open and a hook grabs the front wheels. He doesn't even have o get out of the truck.

I don't have anything useful to add. I just wanted to say that I'm sorry this happened.

Correct. Without a key that car is a substantial paperweight. 2nd that it was towed or someone has another key.
Sorry to hear this happened. Hopefully the parts supply problems don't make this a common thing.
Nearly three days unattended.
Maybe they thought it was abandoned.![](/media/img/icons/smilies/wink-18.png)
Nah, the car pictured was NOT thought to be abandoned...someone doing a steal for parts is my guess.
It had plates on it.
Because SAAB is out of business, my guess is it's now sitting on three shelves in Yonkers.
Ian's been scanning C-List and fleabay; there aren't that many Aero wagons in the world.
