Having lunch with my wife today, I mention I need to get my new to me race tires mounted up, and I have one trailer tire that needs a new valve stem.

She says, how much are tire changing machines anyway? it would probably be worth it for you to get one.

OK, off to search ebay.

This type of conversation happens with my wife and I evryday.

She is awesome!

Did I mention she has owned the last 2 Lemons cars we race? (Like the title to the racecar has her name on it)

Surprisingly inexpensive considering the cost of mounting tires.

I worked at a tire shop that sold an old one that still worked fine for $650.

Balancers are bit more expensive though.

I honestly don't have a place for one at the moment, as we don't have a garage. So it's a flight of fancy short term. However, we are likely building and addition to our house with garage next year, and thats when I can begin my search in earnest.

I did fine a shop starters package from eagle that was a 9000lbs lift, tire mounter and balancer for about $3k. Probably low quality, but still somewhat encouraging.

I have one of the srs bzns ones that Discount Tire uses. They sold it to us for $300. Replaced the belt, and it works great. Has the third arm attachment thingy.

That's not how I knew I had a good wife, but the details cannot be printed here, so suffice it to say I am happy with my decision too!

My wife would probably support a tire machine if I had a place to put it. But she has been pretty easy going about me having 4 vehicles stuffed into our two car garage and parking both of our daily drivers out in driveway even in the cold of winter.

I had my "I chose well" moment a few weeks back when we were car shopping and I sent her a link to the Mazda5. Her first comment about it was: "Oh, cool! It comes in a stick shift!". This was right after we were at Mammoth Cave and she bought the brochure for the Corvette Museum over and said "Do you think we could go here instead of a second cave tour today?".

I just rebuilt two old motocraft 2 barrel carbs in exchange for a coats 10-10 and some bubble balancers. Not what you'd want to use on nice wheels, but works pretty good for steel wheels. I really want a rim clamp and am just waiting for the right deal to come along.

In reply to wae: does she have a sister with similar attitudes?

My wife would have wanted to know what it was when it showed up on the trailer.

Then she would say something like this, "Cool, the Jeep needs tires, when do you think you can get them done."
