"Pull up to the club in a Pinto like it's a Porsche. Garbage bag for one of the windows, spray painted doors - with the flames on 'em. Michigan plates and my name's on 'em." - Eminem (WTP)

"Racks on racks on racks, Maybachs on bachs on bachs on bachs on bachs" - Jay-Z

"Frank White push the 6, or the Lexus LX four and a half. Bulletproof glass, tints if I want some ass" - The Notorious BIG

"For my homies slanging blow, pimping hoes, Rollin' Vogues, Twenty-Fours, let these other homies know" - T.I

And lastly

"Cadillac grilles, Cadillac mills. Check out the oil my Cadillac spills. Matter of fact, candy paint Cadillacs kill. So check out the hoes my Cadillac fills. 20 inch wide, 20 inches high. Ho, don't you like my 20 inch ride? 20 inch thighs make 20 inch eyes. Hoping for American 20 inch pies." - Ludacris

Might have missed them, but no mentions of Ronnie and the Daytonas (Little GTO, or the German version Kleine GTI), Hey Little Cobra, Shut Down, Little Old Lady From Pasadena, Dead Man's Curve, or Kathy Mattea's 455 Rocket? None great, but all car songs. My little rock band actually puled "409" out of thin air a coupe of weeks ago, and it actually really worked, much fun!

My daddy ran whiskey in a big black Dodge,

Bought it at an auction at the Mason's Lodge.

...

Him and my uncle tore that engine down,

I still remember that rumblin sound.

Now the sheriff came around in the middle of the night,

I heard momma cryin, I knew something wasn't right.

He was headed down to Knoxville with his weekly load.

You could smell the whiskey burning down at Copperhead road.

On a hill far away,

sits my old Chevrolet.

It's tires are tattered and torn.

There's no gas in the tank

and the engine wont crank.

Someday I'll trade it for a Ford.

But how I cherish my old Chevrolet.

Its seats are all busted,

its wheels are all rusted,

its a subject of pity and scorn.

But I'll fix it some day

and I'll drive it away,

With a beep from my chrome plated horn.

Seriously, this thread has gone on this long without 'Red Barchetta' or 'Driven' by RUSH being mentioned!?

Spoolpigeon wrote: Heard an old favorite and it sparked the idea for this thread. It doesn't have to be an entire song, just a car related part. I'll start: "Fear can drive stick, and it's taking me down this road" RelientK - Devistation and Reform I like it because it's a creative way of saying not to underestimate fear. Next!

I believe RelientK also had a song called "RX7" that had a line along the lines of "Got a basement full of parts"... which describes every RX-7 enthusiast ever.

Contribution to the thread: "When I drive that slow you know it's hard to steer / And I can't get my car out of second gear"

Little known fact: Overkill's "Years Of Decay" had a lot of inspiration by Metallica's "Master of Puppets" album. Many Puppets-album riffs can be found in the album, and in fact the song "E.vil N.ever D.ies" contains not one but two deep homages to the song Master of Puppets.

Knurled pet theory: Metallica's "Fuel" is a counter-homage to Overkill's song "Fast Junkie" off of the W.F.O album (named after one of the lines in that song)

I'm drivin' a truck

Drivin' a big ol' truck

Pedal to the metal, hope I don't run out of luck

Rollin' down the highway until the break of dawn

Drivin' a truck with my high heels on

Marc Cohn, Silver Thunderbird:

Watched it coming up Winslow

Down South Park Boulevard

Yeah it was looking good from tail to hood

Great big fins and painted steel

Man it looked just like the bat mobile

With my old man behind the wheel

Well you could hardly even see him in all of that chrome

The man with the plan and the pocket comb

But every night it carried him home

And I could hear him saying

Don't you give me no Buick

Son, you must take my word

If there's a God in heaven

He's got a Silver Thunderbird

You can keep your Eldorados

And the foreign car's absurd

Me, I wanna go down

In a Silver Thunderbird

He got up every morning

While I was still asleep

And I remember the sound of him shuffling around

Right before the crack of dawn

Is when I heard him turn the motor on

But when I got up they were gone

Down the road in the rain and snow

The man and his machine would go

Oh, the secrets that old car would know

Sometimes I hear him sayin'

Also, Jimmy Buffet's Ragtop Day is fun, but not necessarily great writing.. "Was that your husband we just passed in that station wagon full of kids?"

Another Buffett, from "USS Zydecoldsmobile"

You can feel the horses under the hood

Through thick and thin pull us out of the wood

She's the smoothest ride, yeah, you'll ever feel

She's the Delta slide of automobiles
