That song came up when the kid and I were going somewhere and I turned it up. She looked at me all funny and said 'Dad, you know what that song is about, don't you?'. Well, duh. I told her, I remember it from high school. Then I remembered I graduated in 1976... damn I'm getting older'n dirt.

On wednesday i was at a children's museum with the family. One of the exhibits was a phone booth. Yes, a phone booth in a museum, to teach children who never have, and never will see one, what a phone booth is (was).

I've had crap knees since forever, last week though I had to roll around under a box truck hunting a phantom trans leak and at some point I did "something" because afterwards it felt like there was something under my right kneecap and I couldn't walk without looking like half of a bad Frankenstein parody. Not so much joint pain as it felt like a badly strained muscle that I couldn't exert at all.

Couple hours later, I turn while standing and my knee went BANG. Then everything felt fine again and I could walk normally without difficulty.

On the other hand, I pride myself on still being able to stand up from laying down without using my arms or coming up one leg at a time, so I guess isn't all that bad. This is a good skil lto have if you find yourself with trans fluid and general old-truck underchassis slime all over your hands and you don't want to touch anything.

I visited the Union Pacific offices two weeks ago in Omaha and saw the remodeled purchasing offices. They did away with pubicles and have an open office environment where everyone's desk is next to each other and they all talk with inside, hush voices. If you have a heated or loud phone conversation they installed a group of small closet size booths near one wall with a terminal and phone inside. They pointed it out to me and was kind of proud of the idea.

The phone booth concept is back? I wonder if somebody got a bonus for that idea?
