Was is CICEnet? I miss that place.

Edit: my oldest post on the current board is a "what car" post from 5/12/2008, but this one was on the last page, where I was trying to sell or swap my model RR collection. Sadly no pics though.

Not as prolific as some but I go back to the time before dorks were dorks, and the less said about that the better.  I think I came on in '04, but I'll claim superstition like a movie actor who refuses to watch his own films.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

12 years ago asking about the ability to edit posts on the new board.

Two posts up from that is one i'm proud of. I was asking to be able to see the post originator before opening the post. I didn't specify who but a bunch of people chimed in and we agreed it was so we could always read Wally's threads. smiley

My first post was in the I Hate Deer thread started by Woody, after he murdered an 8 pt buck with his blue NA Miata. 11 years and 6 months and 511 pages ago.

My Craigslist Lust of the Day thread pops up now and again. That's gotta be close to ten years old.

138 pages on mine. My first thread involved me asking the GRM Hive about 1967 Cadillac Eldorados.

My great uncle had passed away, and one of his kids was handling the estate, which included said Eldorado and a 1978 Ramcharger. Both were far too rotted to salvage, sadly. At least I corrected that whole old Mopar truck thing later.

Do you guys remember the moment when you joined the forum? I was at the $2009 Challenge in between events, and I joined the forum while taking a break in our hotel room.

I have 192 pages.  The oldest post that shows up was from 5/22/08 in a thread about home chef-ing and what knives were the best for the kitchen.

I also noticed in my post there is an uncensored "E36 M3."  I posted about a certain brand of knives behing "the E36 M3" as in, really good and it didn't correct it to a BMW.

I miss that place too. What happened to it? Dave leave town and nobody picked it up?

In any case, I think 2001 was pre-Cicenet. Didn't its predecessor get taken down by threat of lawsuit? CI Net or something? I think it was run by the guy who had acquarium stuff.

Oh yeah - Central Illinois Imports. I remember Ben, Dave, I and few others tried to setup a legitimate club. We had a couple "meetings" at Hooters in Bloomington, and there were the semi-regular meets at the K's parking lot, but there was never really enough interest to pursue it. I might still have a hoodie with the logo on it lol.

I also remember a sketchy body-builder type guy who was in that group. I sold him my Colt shell & had to drop it off at his "shop" which was basically a gravel lot by the tracks outside Savoy. He never gave me back the pair of wheels I put on the car to move it, and I remember he owed people money when he went dark.

Mine is kind of timely from 5/21/2008:

https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/off-topic-discussion/3-years-ago-today/439/page1/

This year was 15 years since the crash. I miss my "I'm more metal than you" avatar.

I had older posts than that, but that was on the old forum (joined 18 Oct 2004).

(edit)

I just looked at my ye olde forum profile:

Interests: Cars, college, women over 5'10"

Ahahahahaha. The irony is my wife is only 5'8" at most.

I think the Hooters meets were before my time. We did the K's weekly pretty regularly, but nothing that could be called a club. Just join up, drive around for a while and make loud noises, then we'd usually end up at that crappy Mexican restaurant with the huge Margaritas.

Not sure if it was the same bodybuilder guy, but there was one - I think his name was Brad, had an STi I think - he was a moderator, and really a D-Bag.

Why is none of that any surprise at all?

Probably not a good time at this point for me to look for vintage bikes; I've got too many other needs for the money.

Mine was a comment on m030's 996turbo swap boxster project. Man i'd have loved to see him finish that. He dragged me on here, said it was the best forum in the world, full of people that cared about each other, I'd never heard of such a thing. He wasn't wrong.

Mine, 12 years and 3 days ago . . .  on the new board.  I may have been on the old.

ZCI: Zone of Continuous Improvement. When one's final times or results peaks on the final run or lap, after meaningful and measurable progress over the duration of the event.

We had our first autox event today. Beautiful day, but I couldn't master the course. I certainly never attained the ZCI! Although my final run was my fastest, it was more dumb luck than the measured and meaningful improvement that I find so rewarding.
