YouTube has ruined TV watchin’ for me

I have found I can't stand the majority of people on YouTube, much like I couldn't stand the majority of people on cable.

I'm only subscribed to Paul's Garage, the BBQ pit boys, and toyman.

Unless I need help with a project AND can't find a text writeup, I don't bother looking for anything other than music on the platform. 

"Like me" "subscribe here" "sign up for notifications" "buy my sponsors E36 M3" every 15 seconds really grates on my nerves. Just shut up and show me how you got that hidden bolt out or what you used to not make that thing you're working on break.

I'm sure I am missing quality content, but the signal to noise ratio is just ridiculous.

Sports clips I missed, JRE podcasts or specific clips, a few other podcasts (comedians) I check in on. 

Lots of cooking shows, etc.

I know a lot of YouTubers are pros and there is some well-edited work out there. It's just that the general antics don't draw me in. I'll watch James May reassemble an antique telephone while giving advice about screwdriver use, but Roadkill-type mayhem does nothing for me. I'll happily hang out with Matt Farah but I don't watch his videos. AvE might have some good info but it's presented in a really annoying way.

So, either give me characters and a good plot, or give me someone deliberate with some understated humor doing something interesting. Or Colin Furze, who I'm going to justify as the exception that proves the rule :) Thus no change in my watching habits due to the growth of YouTube "creators".

I haven't seen Mighty Car Mods, Grind Hard Plumbing (not plumbing related) and if you like The History Guy (History that deserves to be remembered!) may also like Simple History.

I don't watch any of that sort thing, network, YouTube or otherwise, other than TGT - and even that took me awhile to finally watch all of the episodes.  I watch guys talk about guns or history, playing guitar or demo-ing guitar pedals, talking about bikes and/or reviewing bikes.  I can count the number of car related channels I watch on one hand: Doug (and not all of his stuff), Binky, and a few RV channels.  Very little of it is purely "story" based or fiction (is there fiction on YouTube?).  Oh... I do watch the occasional Dust video.  Some of those are well done and well acted, but tend to be short ro a fault.  And I watch a lot of music videos and live performance videos.

I learn a lot from youtube. It's about like the world in general. I like 10%, but I really like them.

I watch most of  the usual automotive channels that have been previously mentioned I also follow some 3d printing/maker channels that show some cool technology and give me ideas for new techniques for making stuff.  I also really like The Skid Factory, Alan drops some knowledge in there every now and then.

I recently stumbled across Speed Graphic Film & Video. Not car-related but they have tons of old black and white film, largely news footage that was filmed and never used, from the '20s, '30s, '40s and '50s. Old skyscrapers being constructed, railroads in operation, dams being built, ships being launched, aircraft and blimps, you name it. A good bit of it even has sound. It's pretty cool stuff and a lot of rare footage.

 I'm watch a lot that's been referenced by others. We also watch a lot of Binging with Babish. One of the better cooking shows, IMHO.

Seeing Dust or Rick Beato mentioned here makes me feel like a hep cat!

I'm sure all the channels quoted are amazing, but it's approaching TV. And doesn't TV (whatever that means anymore) have like 4, 5, 600 new shows this year?

I don't watch TV. And I'm approaching not following a channel on YouTube for the same reason I don't watch TV: Too many choices and I just don't have the time.

Besides, when I'm to old to move I can video surf myself into oblivion!

All I watch is YouTube.  I watch content from numerous people across a huge spectrum of topics.  

My biggest pet peeve however is if I start watching anything whatsoever automotive related and doze off I always wake up to that shrill voice of Doug Demuro saying "quirks and features". Every single time!

Watching the Mink dude (Joseph Carter the Mink Man) with his squad of minks and non-barking dogs wipe out a colony of rats is...

oddly satisfying to me for some reason.

Maybe reconsider that one, I know that guy irl and in my opinion hes not mentally stable enough to have a youtube channel.  Or maybe I dont like gingers.  I dont know anymore.

I have little to add that isnt already said, except for a few.  One is a show on subarus channel called "launch control".  It mainly follows the Vermont sports car teams in stage rally and rallyx.  A bit over edited and dramatized but more rally footage is never a bad thing.  

I usually watch car stuff, racing stuff, making stuff, and some sciencey stuff.  The science stuff I watch is mostly astronomy related, bit of space travel thrown in there.  Anton Petrov is probably my main go-to for astronomy news.  

For grassroots garage/motorsports stuff other than the few forum members who make videos I also watch a channel "conedodger240", a guy who you can probably guess races a 240sx in autox.  It's a supercharged KA24 with water injection and megasquirt.  Got a sweet old 70's ramp truck, too.  Not a lot of recent car stuff but that will likely change soon as he just got a bigger garage.

Funny thing. Because I only use YouTube on my Xbox, I don't really see my subscriptions come up. I wanted to check on your jeep project when a friend was over cause you kinda disappeared from the forum and a week later you were back.

For car stuff I like Cleetus, Hoonigan, Donut Media (pumphrey is a local) and Hagerty. Jay Leno in doses.

For non car stuff, I like to check out the NPR Tiny Desk Concerts, Jared Dines (heavy metal) Pete Cottrell (also heavy metal) and Rob Scallon (you guessed it - heavy metal)

Also Alec Steele has the best blacksmithing and bladesmithing videos on the 'Tube. His editing is just fantastic. He's entertaining, not over the top and explains what he's doing and why.

I'm also a life long monster truck nut so I'm always up for an old race from 1989. Plenty of that still uploaded.

Many of you guys would enjoy watching Tom Stanton. He's an aerospace engineer who does all sorts of nerdy engineering projects with model aircraft and bicycles.

Corridor Crew is a really fun one. They are a bunch of VFX artists who do videos analyzing VFX in films, both bad and good, and breaking down how it was down. They also do a similar series with guest stuntmen breaking down how various stunts in film are performed. Very cool stuff.

For funny I watch a lot of mat best videos, beware he's very right leaning and will offend a lot of people. 
 

car wise everything I watch has been covered except for the occasional madram11 video of rock bouncers or money pit mud trucks 

Vinwiki is a favorite. If you haven't ever watched Vinwiki, it's car people sharing stories. This story is my favorite so far.

Oh, yeah, they also do stuff like taking films and punching up the violence to make them R-rated. Or fixing effects in films. Or the various Indiana Jones/Tom Cruise/Jackie Chan Olympics.
