Just in case people weren't aware, manual transmission equipped C4 Corvettes came with the larger Dana 44 rear end while automatics had the Dana 36. The hot rod crowd will buy either set-up as most are going for the visual appeal, while those looking for more performance and have a higher HP drivetrain will want the 44. I have a 44 in my Corvette Kart because 500rwhp, but the '63 Grand Sport "recreation" has a 36 since it will be just a cruiser and won't see track duty.

Except for 1984. '84 was a Dana 36 no matter how many pedals it had.
I do think the Dana36 "weakness" is overblown a lot like the whole "10 bolts are made of glass" thing. A lot of the guys spouting that have never seen that failure only heard about it through years of anecdotal repetition. When you do end up seeing failures on those drivelines it's someone who put way too much slick tire on stock suspension and wheel hopped the E36 M3 of their car.
