Own a piece of Challenge history! Nearly everything you need to Subaru swap a classic VW. $700/neg pickup Central IL

KEP 6500 Subaru EJ to Air-cooled Volkswagen Transaxle adapter kit + 2 Subaru EJ22s + Wiring and ECUs + Exhaust + OEM radiator.

KEP6500 adapter, flywheel, 200mm clutch and pressure plate.  Uses VW starter and throw out bearing (not included).

1 EJ22 as removed from the Wartburg.  Was running at time of removal but I have not heard it run.

Complete Subaru Wiring and gauges removed from Wartburg.  Reported to be modified per Busaru plans.  Was running and driving but currently in sort of rats nest status.  Includes battery cut off and ~10' of battery cable.

Wiring is probably not "plug and play" but there isn't a lot to Subaru engine management and it is well documented.

Stainless header and custom dual outlet short exhaust system.  This might fit a bus as is or possibly would fit a beetle.  Custom designed to fit a rear engine Subaru swapped VW transaxled Wartburg.

2nd EJ22 with intact ECU to engine wiring but cut off car harness.  Again I have not heard run but was part of a running project that developed fuel issues.

Extras- I have some OEM radiators and a pair of EJ22 intakes with sensors and Coils.

Located in Central IL.  Pickup only, would like to keep everything together.  $700, can itemize reciepts for challenge purposes.

Wonder if this would fit a Type 3 Squareback

I know they had particularly low slung engines for the cargo area.

Looks like Coil relocation and some intake modifications are required to get it under the cover.  A "tall cover" with a lump could probably enclose a stock engine.

I have resisted buying an AC VW and just doing the swap and then selling the result.  If someone doesn't grab this quick I probably will be unable to resist when the Panhard is "done".

If the custom exhaust will not fit whatever car the new owner is planning to use, I'd be interested.

In reply to nocones :

Dad has a Squareback that has been quietly sitting for at least 35 years.  Sooner or later it is gonna need some love.

I'm gonna think on this, but dont hold it for me.

I may have some of the missing parts, like the starter and the throwout bearing. I changed my Subaru-swapped VW from a VW trans to a Subaru trans, so all the adapter stuff involved in mating the engine to the trans became redundant. Available cheap.

In reply to Mr_Asa :

Understood.  It's also been difficult to resist bringing all of this to the challenge, attempting to source a Beetle in FL and PLB ing a Subaru swap..

Hrm.

What're the rules on inherited/family cars?  How do we value that?  Cause FMV will definitely not be Challenge friendly for a Squareback

Probably need to replace so many soft parts as well.

Hrmmmm.

In reply to Mr_Asa :

I wouldn't worry about it exactly.  If you wanted to attempt to PLB a Subaru swap it kinda doesn't matter if it's actually challenge legal or not.  It would be an experience and you would wind up with a cool functional car after that has family significance.  If the FMV on the car would make it legal that's cool but you could still do the build in the spirit of the challenge (I have this thing, let's thrash and make it something cool) and it would still be low budget.

I am currently planning to come to the challenge this year.  I could easily strap this all to a trailer and bring it.  Waiting that long I would want some $$ to hold it though.

Also If such shenanigans were to be attempted I would put the time into cleaning up the wiring and making the engine run for easy insertion before the challenge.

Wonder if this setup would fit in a Puma?

I may have agreed to take this project on.

EDIT. Of course this has already been discussed HERE.
