I know that you want a compressor for the long haul, so no rental option,  but the reality of then having to sand all those parts before color sucks hard. The sealer you would have shot color on top of, "wet-on wet" with the time window being like 24-72 hours or so depending on your MDS.  You might still have that window if you rent a compressor.

The above said, painting under pressure (pardon pun) is not something I would really want to do. It is stressful enough as is.

Yeah I'm way past that window by the time I get a chance again.

The new compressor pump is right and truly installed. At least as far as the belt and stuff. The copper tubing to the tank actually becomes very easy with this style, but if I have to wait for the unloader valve to arrive then I will have to wait before putting it on. Right now the compressor is running it's breaking cycle of 30 minutes with no load and it sounds fine. Maybe the belt needs to be tightened, but that's okay for now. I even found a decent belt at tractor supply, 57-in v belt works fine.

I only wish I could find that unloader fitting locally, I would have the compressor finished today. I've checked home depot, lowe's, tractor supply, Northern tool and Granger

That's the other end. I have that end still. I did mail order it through Amazon, it's coming tomorrow.

Now I'm thinking about building a belt cage around it

I replaced the old pump on my small compressor that my dad bought in the early 70s with a HF pump and had good results. Used it for 3 or 4 years as my primary until I bought a 8 gallon upright. I hope it works out that well for you.

So the unloading line ..

It turns out that I already had the fitting I needed, it was just plugged and so dirty that I couldn't see it.

I stole the fitting from the old compressor cylinder head, retaped everything and reassembled it. The way the compressor is built makes it really hard to bend the tube tightly enough to make the turn. Naturally, while I carefully bent the end, the other end broke.

Can I replace this with something more flexible? Aluminum seems a terrible thing to use given it's fatigue characteristics. Copper seems better. Braided stainless seems good, but can it be over Teflon or rubber hose?

It seems like that would be too hot for rubber, but ..

We always used 1/4" dead soft copper in the repair shop.

Just needs a couple compression sleeves.
