It depends, do you want semi or full auto? Rifleman will make that baby do double damage, and I think the automatic weapons one does the same thing. I need to look into my 2 shot laser musket tonight to see what it deals out.

Good call. Duh, I already have rifleman, which is why the shotgun is dealing so much damage in the first place...thanks for reminding me.
I have come to the conclusion that I do not like the level up system at all. I feel like I'm lost as to what to do.
In reply to Bobzilla:
Kill everything, loot everything, repeat as necessary......what's so hard not to like. Don't worry too much about the level up perks, I usually accumulate 4-5 before I notice and spend them. LoL
One note, if you want to rebuild the walls of the Castle, use shack foundations.
I have the killing/looting thing down. I just miss being able to throw 15 pts at a particular skill that I am currently lacking.
Anyone else ventured thru the Vaul-tec HQ? Some of the notes on the terminal's have some choice bits of dark humor. I have found myself using less and less power armor, trying to run with the Synth armor instead as much as possible.

If I want to be stealthy, I don't use it.....after a rather unique discovery last night involving power armor, I don't foresee not using it while exploring.
I was riding in a vertibird on the west end of the map from the glowing sea to sanctuary and decided to have it drop me off near the police station over there that I hadn't explored yet.....when it landed, I was promptly attacked by 2 legendary deathclaws, an alpha, and 2 other regular ones. The couldn't hurt me in my x-01 mk VI and could only knock me down and growl at me......I killed them all with the Kremvh's Tooth sword.

That's been my strategy. Level 3 synth armor + toughness + lone wanderer seems to make me impervious to everything except deathclaws and mini-nukes.
I'm about to start the "Battle of Bunker Hill" quest. I assume that one cuts off your other questlines with BoS\Railroad, etc?
The synth armor didn't seem to be as good as the combat armor at the base level. Is it better when modified or something?

The synth armor comes in 3 levels. You'll typically find the lowest level on killed enemy synths. Once you make it inside The Institute, you can buy better synth armor from their armory. I just picked up legendary level 3 armor that has something like 40 ballistic\38 energy, unmodified. It also grants higher resistances the lower your health.
edit: It's the unique Mark 3 Synth Chestpiece:

In reply to WOW Really Paul?: I mentioned Raider armor because I assume he's relatively early in the game as a major reason why he's dying a lot.
In reply to Bobzilla: Oh, and you should be getting leather and metal armor early in the game, too. Oddly, the game doesn't give a tutorial about the armor, it took me a while to figure it out.
I've been wearing it since the get-go. Still die a lot. I did dial back the hardness. I went from one down from the survival setting to normal. Just too much death.
In reply to Bobzilla:
Yea, for when I'm not power armoring everywhere, I have the full Destroyers Armor setup that I don. The rest of the time I just rock the Minuteman General's outfit, because it makes me look like a Pirate..... Cait is permanently wearing a postman's outfit, because lol Fallout.
In reply to Bobzilla: Yeah, too hard a difficulty will do that.
In reply to WOW Really Paul?: I really like the Minuteman General's outfit, too. It's a good baseline armor when it's found.
Apparently you can upgrade the uniforms\Vault suits that are worn under armor at the workbench. I'll have to look into this further...

Yeah, ballistic weave.
LoL, I converted to mutifruit farming just in time, for anyone attempting it, they nerfed to ammo glitch(I'm surprised by that) in their patch today, and dumbed down the graphics to make people's E36 M3ty PC's run the game better.
