So I picked up FC5 today. So far, I really like it. I spent a couple hours today on it and the gameplay is classic Far Cry.

However, opening up the map is not like the last several games, which involved turning on radio towers. This is more, save people and they will direct you places to go or you find different maps of the county.

Anyways, who’s getting it? It has a pretty immersive Co-op mode that you can have up to 6 people with. I don’t have any friends in my personal life that looks to be getting it, so hopefully a few of you do. cheeky

I am.

I can't express how happy I am that I don't have to climb towers anymore. That's still some tricky parkouresque moments, but nothing like those infernal towers.

It does feel like more of the same, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The side quests I've been doing are a blast, is very pretty, the fishing is better than the fishing game I have, it's not a bad way to kill time overall.

The story is disappointing. I'm not going to get on a hardcore left-wing soap box like most review sites have taken, but they really over hyped the story in all the ads, in my opinion. It seems secondary especially compared to say far cry 3. In all honesty, I don't play far cry for the story, I play for the collection, the takedowns, and the frustrating combat mechanics, so it's not a let down to me.

Arcade mode looks interesting. I might try it out tonight just to score some extra perk points, but I'm not big on gaming with strangers. If we're on at the same time, I'd happily play some coop with you or anyone else from the forum.

Oh yea, berkeley turkeys. Second most shiny happy person enemy in the game so far, right after the guys with the flame throwers that eat 4 to 6 shotgun rounds to the face and gas tank before dying.

I really like the “For Hire” system. It’s nice to be able to bring somebody along with you and they actually can take out a couple people, not just be there for gun fodder. I like that it’s not just the nine people in the game, that you can pick a few randos as well. Once you open up being able to have two at a time to help you out,  taking out outposts gets  much easier.

As for the flamethrower guys and the juggernauts, I started driving Death Wish around more because the 50 Cal makes easy waste of them.  I also unlocked Widowmaker and holy hell, that’s fun to drive.

As for the story, it’s as I figured as much it would end up being about. I will say, that things do get quite challenging at times, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve died.

I’ll be back on next weekend if you want to play.

I don't know what the review sites are complaining about(ok I do and that's their own idiocy) but the story, I feel, is actually pretty good. I'll be finishing story mode today actually.

I've heard some bad things about co-op, so I'm going to put this out there: co-op only counts story completion progress for the host. I'll help anyone that needs it once I'm done with the story on mine.

Only a couple hunting challenges left, all the collectibles and weapons have been acquired, it's almost time to try out arcade mode.

Watch out for rattle snakes.

I've been seeing the commericals the last week or so and it looks interesting.

So I'm not tainted by ad-driven websites, can you tell me what it's like? What it's about? I've never played any of the Far Cry games.

From just a few of these comments like some type of GTA/AC mashup?

Yea pretty much. Platforming and collection like assassins creed, over a pretty decent if not dated FPS system.

Very very open world. Wander around and meet people to get quests, then go do them. Everything from taking back strategic locations, to hunting infected animals, to collecting bobble heads.

There's crafting of weapons and enhancements, a pretty lackluster selection of guns, an amazing fishing side quest, and you can get a pet bear.

It might be worth checking out a cheap used copy of far cry 3 to check out first, but if you like assassins creed, satire, the wilderness, and FPS games it's worth checking out.

Basically what Rev said.

I’ve only ever played Far Cry 3 and I loved that game. I probably played it over 5 times. I’m hoping at the end of 5 they give you the option like 3 to reset the outposts and you can do it all over again if you want.

I don’t mind the weapon selection, but I’m kind of pissed they don’t have a standard M-79, I don’t really want to pay $3500 for one with a paint job.

The open world is great. The area you have to cover is probably just a tad smaller than San Andreas in GTA, but holy E36 M3 the terrain is constantly changing, sometimes taking a helicopter is my go to.

I did notice something though that has peaked my interest is that when in the game menu, there is a Version number in the corner, I’m wondering if we’re going to get DLCs like GTA. I know there are some future DLCs coming out because I bought the Gold Edition, but it would be cool to get extra missions or something to keep coming back just like GTA.

I am looking forward to the multiplayer map editor, I had a great time with it in Far Cry 3 and spent god knows how many hours making some pretty awesome maps. I’m hoping to do the same with this.

Oh and I love the “For Hire” System. A total of 12 people you can choose to have with you. 6 Main Story characters, 3 animals, and 3 random people of your choosing that you meet through the game. I have a black girl who’s a soldier that I liberated and she’s awesome. She’s with me probably 90% of the time. The NPCs that assist you don’t suck either, they do their fair share of taking out the enemies and reviving you. I think she’s got 50+ kills under her belt. OH, and the randos also have special perks that help you out. One reason I keep her around is that if she revives me, my health goes back to full.

I seriously could talk about this game for hours. I’d be surprised if this didn’t get game of the year to be honest.

Ok, I lied, they put the M-79 under pistols for some reason.

Outpost master in the pause menu, once you finish the story. Will reset them all to do again.

Sweet

Also, I’m looking to see, but the developers said at some point as you play the game and return to outposts you liberate, they are supposed to slowly rid themselves of the Cult crap, I haven’t been able to tell yet.

I'm playing Far Cry 3 for the first time, since I only have an Xbox 360 and don't have the time/money to keep current anymore.  I tried playing the original Far Cry/Predator, and it was just OK.  #3 is everything I hoped it would be.  Lying in the grass with a sniper rifle and liberating an outpost from far enough out that I never get detected, even from the patrols and active searchers is enormously entertaining.

Following threads here has made me want to get an Xbox One, just so I can play GTA and now Far Cry 5 with you all.  Maybe black friday sales this year will enable that.

Yeah I don't know how much time I'm going to get until my girlfriend leaves to go visit her parents toward the end of the month. But then she will be gone with 5 straight days and is boarding the dogs so I can run up to Tulsa and see family/friends if I want.

I'll probably just play video games of the guitar, drink beer, and enjoy the silence. :)

I rushed my first playthrough because I had to see how it ended and was trying not to spoil it for myself accidentally online.  I REALLY liked the ending, it definitely was not what I expected.

I want to take my time on the second playthrough and see if there's any hints or clues that I missed.  Great game!

I think some shiny happy person on Facebook already ruined the ending for me and I can’t unfortunately rush the game because of my job.

There are multiple endings. Not sure if random chance or based on play though. It's...underwhelming, at least mine was.

Also, I don’t know if anyone else is experiencing this, but I’m having a hard time being undetected when hitting an outpost. It’s not that I suck at hiding or using a silenced sniper rifle or the stealth For Hire people, it’s like no matter what I do, they always find me. I usually try to take out the cultists who are the farthest out or on the highest structure first, but somehow no matter what, someone else sees that person go down and they already know where I’m hiding and start charging me.

My other issue is alarms. In FC3 I was the master of taking them out, whether it was at a distance or sneaking in and disabling it. I always wait until no one is around and then take it out, but this time around, if I try to take them at a distance, somebody could be 50 feet away on the other side of a building and somehow they hear it.

As far as I know there's only three, "Resist" aka the nuke ending, "Walk away", and the "do nothing at the beginning" option like in FarCry 4.
