We need to be doing more of this if we can.  Ford Falcon and a mini.  Just so cool!!!

For this series would we call it: GRM - Goodwood Revival Melee, or Goodwood Revival Madness?

Here is a breakout of the cars by the classes that are built in.  Most seem like they were pretty close in testing.  I am not sure there is any significant difference between the 3000 / 5000 glass cars and the + cars.

Theoritically we could use the primary classes for Bronze, Silver and Gold which could be required based on standings (top third, middle third, bottom third, rounding to the middle).  If we get a number of drivers who show up one or two times, that could take up the Gold cars, so maybe if you miss more than the number of drops allowed, you are ranked, but not included in the calculation for the split

Here is a how the classes would break down based on participants and standings:

I had an idea regarding the HC. It is that for every week you are in first place you get an additional amount of weight. So the first week you are in the points lead you get the 50. But if you are still in the points lead after the next race you get bonus HC on top of the 50. This bonus weight would varry but it would be somthing like an additional 10 or 20 kg.   Once you drop out of the points lead it resets back to zero or it could become a base HC you keep. It is all up in the air.   I am thinking I would call it The Sauce Ruel.

This is the only spelling of Ruel I will support for GPSS

I think some form of sauce ruel would prevent certain individuals from walking away from everyone in the series in spite of having marginally more HC.  It could also set up a dramatic series finale if the difference in HC between 1st and 2nd place is significant.

I am leaning towards implementing it for next season.  I don't know if the "bonus" hc you get for staying in the #1 position gets re-set or if it becomes the permanent baseline.  I suspect there would then be ways to game the system so I am probably going to make the bonus HC a bit harsher but no baseline adjustment.

If people can test cars that are on the server between now and next Wednesday so we can narrow the car choices down to say less than 10 for the next series. I was also thinking that we could go for a sub 3l group as well. Maybe a sub 2.5l?  Maybe do a series with the bottom 5-6 cars?  The reason for wanting to group the cars is that the HP will effect a light lower hp car much more than a heavy high hp car. Even though there lap times are similar in base form.

My favorites so far are the Alfa Romeo 33, the Cobra Hardtop and the Bizzarrini.

I found that the Alfa 33 needs some tuning to make it more stable, in stock form it has a tendency to get into tank-slappers and then it doesn't have a whole lot of lock angle to catch the slides with, so it will get stuck sliding at 90 degrees of slip angle similar to the Singer Porsches if it gets too sideways. Softer rear springs help a lot.

The Alfais a lot of fun. I get old F1 vibes from it. Air and I were having fun racing it.

This week people should choose 2-4 cars they like from the test server. I plan on running abbreviated races to see how these cars get along. Try and change it up between races just to keep things interesting.

Also I may look at the bottom of the pile in terms of lap times and set up a server with those. Again abbreviated races but we may run the revers grid to see how these cars hot shoes can get through traffic.

Out again tonight... just returned from a little road trip to New Orleans.

I thought I might try to get on tonight, but not only am I wiped from today's 780 mile drive, but caught a bug the day before we left so I got to drive all the way home sick.  Ugh.  Just shoot me...

So, the initial idea is to do a "fast" version of the GTC cars.  Using a sub-set of the cars that have test on the fast end (exact list to be determined). General rules:

- Car selection will be random at all times, from a pool of two of each available car (e.g. no more than 2 of each car can be driven at each time)

- The top two season points leaders will be required to switch car after each race (hopefully throwing them off a bit, of course, it certainly does not guarantee a slower car).

- When switching cars, current car goes back into the pick pool (after pick).  It's certainly possible you could get the same car (though unlikely).

- Non-points leaders are allowed two re-draws if they wish.  A redraw can only happen after driving the car for at least one race.  Non-points leaders will have pick priority (pick before), points leaders.

Unsure if there will be any general handicap at this point (possibly, but if fixed, will affect lower weigh cars more).  HC could be modified by cars weight, or power to weight?

Car switching could become a bit strategic.

Next week will be some more testing.  Maybe do a bit of track searching? Maybe do more of a slower car test?

Just saw this thread. I've got a racing sim cockpit and equipment. A few questions.

  1. What typical setup are you guys using to race? Wheel and pedals, controller, pulsing brain tumor with RCA outputs?
  2. When are the races?
  3. How long are the races?

Thanks all.
