With the testing we did on Sunday night, I think dean's 80s Japanese FR series could work. I only had one car that matched the formula, but I've since acquired a few more. Some one mentioned that the 500 pp and below formulae seem to have the best racing and for once, I was able to stay at the front of the pack for a minute.

No other suggestions at the moment, I'm just coming back to it after a layoff, though I've been woodshedding a little bit with my tuning and driving.

Any testing this evening? I've got the RR VWs.

Mini/MINI Tuners

  • 500pp
  • RH tires
  • Make: Mini

Notes:

  • Mini found to be non-competitive
  • Close racing

Waterless Wonder Germanic Racing series:

  • 410pp
  • SM tires
  • Manufacturer: VW
  • RR and 4WD cars only

Notes:

  • Lots of tuning will be needed to optimize cars
  • Ghia easiest to make fast
  • Schwimwagen has extreme handling

The Ghia is easy to tune to fast but driving it fast consistently is the real challenge.

Let's do a 600pp GT3/GT2 45min series with real tire wear and real fuel.

Not sure what the min. weight should be.

I still to try doing Spec Iron.

I had a series set up for that but I think we found the Camaro to be a ringer. We should revisit that. Maybe see if a modern mustang the Camaro and the dodge.

Oh a spec viper series could be fun. I have not tested many of those but the couple I have tested were fun.

Another fun one would be Heavyweight GT cars with 600pp on SS tires. Min. Weight 1400kg.

I wonder if there are American iron race cars that would work.

There's a huge variety of cars for a 600pp Touring Car series with 30min races. Just need to find a good min weight.

I am thinking Mustang, Camaro, and Charger but race cars. I know there is a camaro. We used it as a drivers choice car. It was my choice and I was a really fun car.

Or do we go with street cars but put full aero on them along with chases stiffing and everything else you do to make a track car.

I kinda want to get back into it... gotta see if I have time/if it runs early enough.

Three suggestions.

Senna F3 car series

Senna Lotus F1 series

Full tilt Caterham Fireblades (Either go street tires, or whatever tires you want with wear on)

I think the formula cars with wear could be quite a bit of fun.

Good one car spec series...

OR... Shifter Kart MADNESS! shifter karts on road courses. are you ready to DRAFT??? (more fun than it sounds)

The only issue with the Senna cars is that everyone looks the same, and I know we've run the F3 cars and as I recall the massive draft effect caused some problems. I'm game to try the rest, assuming I ever get the chance to play again

In reply to e30Matt:

Well, the F1 cars with tire wear would be pretty good. I understand the "all looking the same" thing. This would allow REALLY bonkers cars without an expensive buy-in because you can win the car.

An alternative that would be fun is CAN-AM (there is the toyota 7 and the 2J, any others that might fit?), but IIRC there is some prohibitive pricing. (2J is fast, both cars have their challenges. The 2J would win on tire wear any day, but the 7 is just easier to be consistently fast in)

The caterham, well its been my favorite car/pet project for awhile. I have actually driven mine enough to have to rebuild the engine... twice... (and do chassis repairs) With the full supercharged power they are quite fun. Street tires work well on them and up the challenge of planting the power, RS makes them terrific momentum cars and tire wear could be fun. Want a real challenge? throw wet into the loop. (try it for some of the highest level 15minute or whatever races. The one at the ring is a great challenge with it)

I think the Senna F1 is fun because of the bonkers turbo spike, but a lot of people hate it :( (sound is great also)

We did do a "super" Caterham series once, I think it went OK, there might have been NOS involved! Dean and I were testing a tuned down Caterham (with harder tires) the other night and it was actually quite nice! Tuned to the max they can get pretty wacky (you have to avoid loosing traction at all costs in both cases).

In reply to aircooled:

Yeah, the super heavy flywheel makes it very hard to regain traction if you lose it. Lifting off doesn't have much effect, the wheels just keep spinning. I don't think I've done enough with the car to know if the lightweight flywheel fixes this issue or not, but it sounds like Apex can chime in.

You always have a bit of the wheelspin issue, but not to a massive extent with full mods. I will say that the penalty of it can add something to the racing, having to pedal out of it. Its easy to forget what the power to weight ratios mean in a car that light.

The primary thing I have found is that you want to spring them softly, otherwise they are too twitchy and react poorly to kerbing.

In reply to dean1484:

Spec Iron as in S197 3 valve Mustang spec series. No ringers etc

Also I had a lot of fun in GT5 with a series running oval tracks with fully tuned '69 Camaro racemod cars. Something like that might be interesting. I don't know if anybody else here enjoys ovals though.
