I’ve done no testing, so take what I’m about to say with a grain of salt, but...

I’m expecting this week to be the crossover event on tire compounds. I suspect softs will compromise on wear and hards will compromise on pace. Does anyone run softs and plan a tire-only pitstop?

I’m planning on starting my test on softs and have a soft tire strategy that’ll I will have set to active. But I will also test the hard tires before making a decision. To this point soft compounds have not been an issue.

What is the pitstop delta for a tires only stop and how many seconds per lap can the softs be?

Assuming 20 seconds to pit, you would have to be 1.33 sec faster per lap to break even (assuming a 15 lap race). It would take some testing to see if this is a viable strategy or not.

I have tested and I am running softs with out a pit stop. You have to treat the tires with respect but testing tonight I made the 30 min session with out issue. What you have to keep tabs on is the temps. Overheated tires give up grip more than worn tires.

I will want to test In the room tomorrow just to confirm as things do varry a bit room to room.

I don't know how you are managing to run softs, Dean.  Track temp is in the 90's.  Softs overheat in three laps in the Lambo.  Even in a qualifying setup, hards are faster for me.  My best full tank lap is a one off 2:04.6 on hards.  Mostly I'm in the 2:05's.  I've only been able to tune and practice for about an hour.  The pit lane is so long at Silverstone I don't think a stop is feasible.

my tires will creep up to about 200-205. Is that to hot?

The only other thing is maybe I have something in room settings wrong but I have checked it twice.

Hello all,

New here to GRM & would like to get in on the action on PC2 if I am welcome. Just got my old Driving Force GT wheel working with the PS4 thanks to a GRM forum about the drive hub and been playing with the wheel settings in PC2.

I can somewhat competently take most cars around random tracks when I'm just screwing around and not constantly end up in a wall or other cars on track, but by no means great at this sim yet.

PS Network name is Headshot0392

My scope of friends with ps4s is limited, the number who have a ps4 and play driving games is 0. Would love the opportunity to drive with some actual people and not in the chaos of public servers.

If I ever wake my comatose project car I will be making a build thread here in the near future.

Andrew

I'm doubtful for tonight but I might try to spectate. I ran a few laps with Dean last night and it went OK from a car perspective, but after the fact my foot disagreed with it. I think sitting out for a while longer is the best plan if I'm going to get right.

The top end of the operating range, without losing grip, is about 205.  If I run softs and push a bit my tires hit the 230's.  High temps also increase wear.

Thanks for the welcomes from everyone. I'll accept/send friend requests when I get home tonight.

Won't be attempting to join tonights session since I have a road trip tomorrow plus I still need to fine tune my control settings more and then practice and tune a car.

Are all cars on the list in page 1 fair game? Or do you guys try to avoid using the same cars as each other?

Thanks

Though one of the advantages of GT3 is a lot of different cars that are competitive, feel free to pick the car that you are comfortable with.  All those on page one are fair game.

I managed to pull off a magic qualifying lap this morning where I dipped into the 2:03's.  That is not normal, but I know where I made up the time, now just to see if I can replicate it.

I typically have been in the low 2:05's for my qauli times, sometimes in the 04's.

Yeah, like you, I know where the time is being lost.  But can I figure out how to consistently find it?  That's another question.  The car is fine.  Driver, not so much.

You can join in and watch.  I don't think we can hear you when we are racing but you would get a feel for what goes on.

Good news for me as my work travel plans have shifted a couple days so it looks like I will be able to make it next week for Algarve. After Silverstone where the biggest elevation difference is when you get a tire up on the curbing, Algarve will be a big change. I've only done a handful of laps there so far, but it looks like a fun technical track.

For tonight, if we race with the AI at 79/25, I suspect they will be stealing some points away from humans. No idea why they are so much better at this track then they were at Brands Hatch.

The AI is REALLY interesting.  I ran a couple races last night all with the same settings and in one race the AI did a qualifying lap of a 2:03 and it was all I could do to finish in the top 5.  In the next race the best the AI could qualify at was  a 2:06 and I won that one with relative ease.  Both races were set a 75/25
