I finally survived Mittengard twice in a row, we won both times, and I had a few kills to boot, in a tier II light tank no less! I assumed I would be horrendously murdered, like what happens every other damn time I play that map, so after the good fortune, I decided to shut it down and bask in my survival for a bit. 
After a bunch more battles and a nice win streak I bought an M3 Lee. Turret, y u no swivel independent of body?
Anxiously awaiting the M4 Sherman.
That's one of the worst grinds in the game IMHO. It has weak armor, its a HUGE target (especially for side shots), its immobile and the stock gun is way short on punch. The upgraded gun is decent, so use free XP if you have it to upgun before you really try to play it. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the armor or turret to use it as a tank and its too tall to use it as a TD. The only good news is you can usually work past "The Wedding Cake" (as my son calls it) in a few gaming sessions. Also, because its a Tier 4 Medium, you can activate your medium missions and pick up some spare coin if you get lucky with it.
I must be doing it wrong. I'm 14k or so short on xp to research the Sherman so I thought I was in for a long, maddening grind.
(Edit) What I meant by saying that ^ is that, for me, it will take me much more than a few gaming sessions to accrue the needed XP.
I almost went for the wallet.
the m3 lee has a good gun for it's tier... pretty sure it has the most DPM in that tier... but the odd gun lay out, huge box and the "yo dawg I heard you like turrets so we put a turret on your turret" top turret with the gun 3 ft bellow means you can't really hide... best thing you can do on that tank is hug a corner with just the gun peeking out... sadly that's not an option most of the time... I litteraly died my way though... I've got a 54% win rate in this game over nearly 10k battles and 58% over the last 1000... but my win % in the lee twins was well under 40% lol...
get yourself into the m4... but don't sell the lee, keep it, do your daily doubles until you elite it (research the t1 heavy)... then get rid of it knowing you'll never have to play it again... unless you want the firefly ;-)... but the brit version was better with less of a turret on the turret bit lol.
Ugh...I had a 53.6% w.r. until I started trying to use the Lee. Now it's below 50%.
I keep getting one-shotted. I've been watching and reading Lee strategy tutorials, it just doesn't fit my playing style. A-grinding I will go...
What a coincidence, my win rate was well above 50% before I started the Lee grind too. I still don't have it back above 50%. IIRC my win rate with the Lee was in the high 30% range. The only thing worse was the T2 Medium that proceeded it. If you really hate playing it, you can always set it aside and only play when its "worth it" - i.e. - the 2x first win XP and during "weekend specials" that involve extra XP.
I concur, the T2 medium sucks!
It was 5x xp this morning but I went 0 for 5 with the damn thing and got one-shotted within a minute or two of the start of the battle unless I camped at the base. Then I got one-shotted a bit later.
I don't recall the t2 med but the m2 med (tier3) was fun... has that derp gun and I believe it has the most gun depression of any tank in the game... I didn't appreciate it the first time around but I went back to it at some point and had some fun for a bit lol.
Only 10k xp to go...
The damn m3 Lee has me thinkink of joinink da RRRRRRooossians.
I have noticed every other tank seems MUCH easier to play after grinding on the Lee for a while. So, I've got that goin' for me...
I have the M2. I'll have to go a few rounds with it when I wake up.

russian meds and light tanks (in general) are my goto for this game... the t-28 at tier4 is difficult to master but once you get it you're going to do well the rest of the way... it's fast, agile with a good gun (57mm) but it has no armor and is the size of a barn... was my fav tank for a long while... the t-34 has amazing dpm with the 57mm, the t-34-85 is one of the best meds at tier6, tier7 is the low point in the line, the tier8 while techincally outclassed by most other meds is very easy to play IMHO... the tier9 is considered the best tier9 med in the game... and the tier10s in the line are meta for clanwars and best in tier...
the US med line is easy to play (once you get past the lee) but personally I didn't care for the m4 that much... the tier6 ez8 was beast for me, t20 is one of the best tier7 meds, tier8 gets the very easy to play/versatile pershing, apparently the tanks after are more of the same, very versatile but they don't excel anywhere...
I personally stopped at the pershing on the us med line, the russians i'm going all the way with.
Had a funny battle last night. There were 3 M3 Lees on each team, at the bottom of the battle roster, and I paired up with one our Lees. We stalked an enemy medium tank then took turns bouncing bullets off of it, doing no damage, before both being one-shotted.
I'm sure he was laughing his butt off as we went "pew pew pew" and our rounds ricocheted doing zero damage.
...6,841 xp to go. Getting closer, ever so slowly.
On a side note I've been hopping back in my tier 1 tanks every so often and having some wicked good fun with those little berkeleyers!
I usually bounce back and forth between the Lee and the T82 (especially if I get one-shotted) so the whole stationary turret thing becomes second nature...that's the plan anyway.
I went on a bender last night and eventually improved my skill with the Lee. Eventually I was surviving. Then I was surviving and getting a kill or two. I had some gold left over from when I re-joined with a bonus code so once my xp was within 4,000 or so I dropped 126 in gold along with 10k+ in xp to research the Sherman! Then promptly bought it since I had over a million in silver due to the grind.
I played a few battles with it and I can tell I'm going to dig it a LOT!
My win rate is back above 50%. 51.33%, I believe.
lol when I was at 1000 battles I somehow had a 53.5% winrate... it then plummeted down to 52%... we're back to the 53.5%...
it's easy to have big swings early in the career... with less than 100 battles each win/loss is more than 1%... average is 48-49%... and being so new it's not really important (although it feels nice to win :) lol

Yep, that's pretty much how it goes. Right now, I'm really close to either the T20 or the T29 with the Sherman E2. I get killed, A LOT, because it gets "low tiered" a lot, but its by far may favorite. I still jump into the regular M4 once in a while too. They really aren't that great, but I like the American mediums. Thinking I'll go T20 once I have the XP.
In other news, I keep getting thrown into colossal fail teams lately. My win %, which was just a few tenths off of 50% on Sunday, has dropped a full percentage point in the past 24 hours.

as you move up you get better tanks... the real problem is every time you go against them they are top tier so you see them at their best... when you move into that tank you quickly find they aren't as impenetrable as you thought lol.
as for those tank options... the t29 is suposed to be awesome... however because you are going to it from the jumbo I'll recommend what all the unicoms recommend... play the t20 and get the 90mm before getting the t29 (or have the free xp to get the 90mm right away)... the 90mm is a very good and effective gun (just carry some prem rounds for the front of higher tier heavies) but the 76mm you have to get to it is useless on a tier7 heavy tank
the t-20 is one of the best tier7 meds... it was my first tier7, I really loved the ez8 and found a big shock moving up to tier7 in the way the game and tanks played... also it's the first real big grind I had for a gun (14k xp for the gun, not including tracks, turret etc or whatever it needed to mount)... it's a tank I want to buy back but would need to grind out a new crew :(
to jed... I played with both the derp and pew pew... I never managed to find a happy play style with the derp... granted it was fairly early in my career... I think I could make it work these days as i've improved... will get to put that to the test on the sherman III at some point I suppose
Thoroughly enjoying the derp. I did have my first tk, though. Purely accidental but a tk nonetheless.
Myself and another medium were angling in on an enemy heavy in Karkov. We were on opposite sides of the street and he was pinned down one block ahead of me, at 40% health and calling for help. The heavy was at 30% and I'd already penned him once but to hit him I had to shoot danger close to my ally. Right across his nose.
We got our timing off and he stared to poke out for a shot just as I pulled the trigger. The derp shooting the derp knocked him out. I immediately appologized profusely and felt horrible. I think we wound up losing too.
