Picked up a what was supposed to be an easy project for my boy has turned into a "sorry we don't carry that" kind of a project.
We are now in need of a 15mm ID 18mm OD 18mm long bronze bushing for a clutch basket(50cc husky boy, I think its louder then my KDX220). The only place that I can find online to list the actual part wants over 20 bucks, and 15 for shipping.... I have tried ebay, amazon, and grainger, but so far the closest I have found we some for 15ish shipped but they were 20mm long and I would rather not have to try to cut off 2mm. All thou I could use this as an example of why I "need" a bench lathe/mill.
So long story left long, I need a 15x18x18mm bronze bushing. Any ideas?
Call up a machine shop and ask what it would cost to have one cut from oilite. Its very tough to machine correctly as its somewhat soft and porous and it wont work correctly if you smear it any when it's cut(cutter must be silly sharp). Are you positive on those measurements? 14x18x18 is a common size, McMaster gets $1.63 for them.
Buy 3/4 bronze round stock, place in lathe... remove .041 from outside diameter. Leave in chuck, place 15mm (.590) drill in tailstock chuck and bore?
Option B: Take 3/4 bronze stock to a machine shop along with a 6 pack of good beer or $20.

The only place I have found the specs are in a poorly translated parts listing but a quick check with my harbor freight calipers confirm the numbers.
If you send me something close I can machine one up.

Quick Google found 15 X 18 X 20-50mm length, needed cut like OP said. Keep searching for 18mm L? I dunno.
Ask around your circle of friends, somebody gotta know somebody who has access to a machine shop. When you say "kid's project" that'll garner more interest. Or, ask the local Vo-Tech. That'll be a good project for their students.
If all else fails I'll ask our shop tomorrow afternoon.
I lucked out and found a moped place in CA that caries the bushing, $9 shipped. Still more then it should be, but a lot better then some places.
