Boston parking garages don't allow motorcycles for a number of dumb and completely refutable reasons. A little Googling shows this is an issue across the country.
WTF. I'm just trying to get to work while taking up less space on the road and having a great time.
I was a motorcycle messenger in L.A. for a lot of years. When I had started it was fun, butas the years went on it got to be harder and harder to do the job. One of the reasons was the lack of access to parking garages. The most common excuse was they were tired of being sued by motorcycle riders who slipped on oil/water.
Because it's too easy for a bike to get past the toll booth without paying?
According to googles there are lots of downtown parking garages that allow MCs in Boston. Green dots... not as many as there should be - but still choices.
Bizarre. The underground garage at work has 2 "small vehicle" spaces that are ideal for a motorcycle. The only issue is that I'm not heavy enough to trip the door sensor on my way out - I have to pull up next to it and push the button, which is a pain if there's a car parked in the spot next to the door.
The garage by One Kendall Square (and the Kendall movie theater) has motorcycle parking outside, too.

I parked my bike in a pay ramp downtown one time years ago, and when I left and stopped at the booth to pay the guy inside said, "you can't park that here!"
I said, "Well, I just did." Considering I was on my way out at the time and I was handing him the ticket, I thought it was an odd thing for him to say.

The garage that I park in told me that their sensors will detect a motorcycle (and they do), and that they wouldn't stop me from parking my wing there, but that they didn't recommend it because I could get hurt by the gate arm.
Some other garages just flat out won't detect when a bike is at the gate. Most of those just won't allow a motorcycle, but a couple garages I've parked in allow bikes to go around the gate and pay in the office instead of getting a card.
I had a place tell me I couldn't park. They had designated motorcycle spots right next to the main office.
After a discussion I managed to pull out of them that I could park there if I paid online. So I hopped on my phone and paid online right in front of them, showed them the receipt and they let me in. Cash was no good, but a phone receipt was.
