I stumbled across this on CL as a "been in storage, needs some work" cheap project. I borrowed a harbor freight motorcyle hitch carrier (awesome) and picked it up pretty cheap.
Found out the vacuum petcock hose was detached causing the no start condition. Also found it has a 70cc big bore kit on it. booya! 70cc liquid cooled 2 stroke!
Its been put down & generally mistreated, but should be fun to tool around on. Parts are virtually non existent in the US, but some bits are still around in UK.
Those things are really hard to find in the US. Great score for sure!
May I ask what "pretty cheap " is?
I know they were available in much larger displacements across the pond, and were pretty popular over there for a few minutes. I'd bet that some of the scooter racing specialists in The UK/EU stock parts for them.
QC problems with these were allegedly Italjets undoing.
Edit: I've long wanted to get one of these, swap in a big bore gy6, and stretch the center section of the frame to make a touring / fat arse sized dragster.
The front suspension design looks interesting.
I didn't know anyone made a water cooled moped.

The front suspension is very similar to the mid-ninties Yamaha GTS1000.
The engine is an LC variant of a mineralli scooter engine, its kind of a two stroke equivalent to the gy6 scooter engine. I'm pretty sure that that engine (or an Asian knock off) is still being used in 50cc Yamaha scooters.

That looks like the most expensive way possible to build a scooter.
I approve of this over engineering.
Apparently it was designed by the same guy that did the Ducati monster.
I had been looking at some 4 stroke scooters (metropolitan) and some Chinese junk, but they were all over $1k and heavy (except for the metro). I wanted something light if I use it as a pit bike. I think this thing is like 90kg.
I forgot how much fun a 2 stroke is when it gets on the pipe.
Sweet, I always loved the way those looked. I keep an eye out for the 180cc version, but haven't seen one for sale cheap enough for me to bite.
I haz teh jellies. I've wanted one of those for years.

Oh yeah, cept me being a cheap ass I need to find it used. As far as I know, there is still the stock carb & exhaust on the 70cc kit. I see more powa in my future.
And yes, thats the minarelli LC engine.

Hmm, I could probably fab something up but that may double the cost of the bike :) As part of the carb cleanup I put a fuel filter before the carb & now it just pours fuel out. Napa 2 piece fuel filters must suck.

My old shop worked on one of these. To say parts are hard to find is an understatement - and that was five years ago. I had to get my friend who studied abroad in Italy to translate the website and order forms so I could get the ignition parts we needed, directly from the factory. And then the thing nearly caught fire when said parts were faulty. One of the very few bikes we ever gave up on.
I thought having something italian with sketchy reliability would be fun. And actually I probably got a good 10km on it before I tried to start it one morning & found it locked up. Pulled the plug & it was full of coolant. yay. Gasket set is $12 & just waiting for it to arrive. Head looks fine / bore looks fine. Not sure on the cause, maybe the cooling of the engine drew in the water?

The difazio looking front end looks pretty trick and the trellis frame does look very Monster-ish, you'd be the trendiest chap in Rome on that thing!
That's a nice lookin scoot. I just recently got an 07 TGB Sunset 50 myself. I tossed on an aftermarket pipe and it really woke the little 49cc up. After taking the bronze bushing out of the variator, it now will do 50+ MPH. On a down hill. With a tail wind. But on average, it will do 40-45 MPH on flat ground.
Still waiting on the gasket. I don't know what the top speed is on this one, the guy I bought it from said "it'll go 85". I put serious doubt on that until I saw the speedo was in KM :) 85km ~ 55 mph. Not sure I'd buy that but I've had it to 40+ without issue (and no problem on the steep hills around here).
However, that fancy front steering has no "caster" like a normal bike. Very little feedback in a turn which is a little unnerving at higher speeds.
Its just got a cone filter on the intake (instead of stock airbox). Engine is loud & its all on the intake side. It is a blast to ride - It has a point where the engine gets "on the pipe", the CVT hooks up and its a serious wail.

Hopefully someone a bit more versed in 2 stroke scoots can chime in, but I've heard that it's not usually a good idea to ditch the airbox on a mildly modified 49cc 2T scooter.
That's the way I got it. It does have the 70cc big bore kit on it, I'm assuming that the carb & restrictor were modded to match it. I wouldn't mind using the air box but the elbow connection is missing.
The only real time it is not a good idea to remove the stock airbox is when the carb isn't tuned to dump more fuel as well. Mine has been rejetted and actually runs better without the filter at all. But that is a bad idea of course. What I have planned next is to upgrade the carb from the dinky 13MM Mikuni to more about 21-22MM.
I, myself, am still reading up about this 2T. Like, my engine is a Morini Franco AD50 derivative, and I also learned that my ignition fires twice per RPM.Which, I believe, this means I can run a regular tach set to the 4 cyl setting.
