I'm not sure if it was old tires, gravel, over cooked turn, lack of skill, or multiple combos of them, but I dropped the Twinstar. Front end got loose in a right hand sweeper. Somehow I righted it ( I think I kicked my foot down hard enough to push me upright.) But I was headed to the other side of the road, and some trees. Thankfully there was absolutely no traffic. I think I locked up both brakes and down we went.

The plus side was I dumped it in grass, so I only tweaked the bars and bent a turn signal. That's it.

I'm glad I had a full face helmet on as there were a few scrapes on the chin and deep ones on the shield. That could have been my face!

My left leg is sore as E36 M3, but this could have been worse.

What my brother warned me with is true: you Will go down. Inevitably. This is why I choose to look lame. I got to ride away, instead of spending Saturday night in the ER.

Glad to hear you made out ok. Any crash you can walk away from is a good crash.

It's happened to all of use, i dropped my old bike making a right turn when i hit a patch of very fine loose gravel, for some reason VDOT fells the need to cover all the roads in loose gravel and do patches as opposed to repaving them...

Glad you made out alright. Two kinds of bikers - those who've crashed and those who are going to. ATGATT never looks lame.

I've been close to that but haven't gone down yet. ATGATT is the way to go. Glad it wasn't worse.

When I see posts from people who crashed their bike, I always read carefully to see if I can learn something. Thank you for sharing your unfortunate experience - and yeah, ATGATT is NOT lame. Concussions and missing facial features are lame.

QFT!!

I laid my VRF800 down turning in the driveway at the old house. If it wasn't for my gloves, my hand would have been hamburger from the slide. ATGATT!!

I once got loose in a corner with gravel. Luckily I righted it, but I was in the oncoming lane with a car honking at me.

That will scare the bajeezus out of you! Talk about out of the frying pan into the fire!

I always wear gear, and I do it all the time!

Did you ever replace the handlebars?

Picked up some lower CB200 style ones at a swap meet for $10. God how i hated those buckhorn style bars,I already had some extra signals to replace the cracked lens that was there when I bought it.

Glad you found a soft place to land. Pavement is such an unforgiving bastard.

Its good to hear you were able to walk away - I have heard some horror stories about how a normal, easygoing ride can turn on you in a heartbeat. Glad your still on the warm side of the dirt.

Believe me, guys, I still don't know how I didn't dump it on the pavement. Kicking at the ground is a dumb thing to do. I could have gotten run over by my own bike. When I went past the spot the other day, it really hit home. There is about 10-12 feet of turf before I would have hit some very sturdy trees.

At Sebring if you go off the road in the paddock there is this black sand . Yes I bit it but not bad , but enough to shake me up. I never left the blacktop in a hurry or on a slant after that . Our friend Pat was standing on a 4 wheeler and he was hit at Sebring the same weekend 4wheeler vs Car . He had some major blood puddling on the ground and neck injuries . They airlifted him to Tampa St pete area. Very nasty weekend at Sebring which should of been an awesome time turned sour .

I went down on gravel during the MSF course. In the parking lot. I am hoping that was my one time.

(Yes, I still passed)

I think you only fail if you dump it during a test.

In PA they only automatically fail you if the handlebars hit the ground during the test, all the training and practice and such is still fair game.
