I have been riding the ol' Lightning City-X since July of 2009. It was my first motorcycle and I absolute love it, but I think it's time to make some modifications.

Well, more like un-modifications.

Before I bought it from my brother, he had gone to great lenghts to make the bike his. That's great. It had, at the time of my purchase, the full Micron Serpent exhaust system (which has been proven to free up 15 wheel HP... no joke!), a custom fuel map, some rerouted breather tube bull crap, and the shortened rear end (fender elimination). There were some other things (LED turn indicators), but these are just the things I am looking to reverse.

I took care of the rear fender elimiator thing already. I actually like the Buell's rear fender since it CLEARLY was not an afterthought just to make the damn thing legal like it seems to be on everything else. The stock setup also allows me to put the saddle bags on the bike (which saves my back on long rides with cargo) and grate cheese (which is a must when a pizza needs extra cheese and you forgot your emergency grater).

The problem now will be to figure out how to get the headers off, find the stock ECU tune (which doesn't seem to exist anymore), and re-reroute the breather tube since he melted it anyway by inadvertently routing it up against the header.

This is why I hate buying modified machines. People get on web forums and think that what the forum folk say is the word of God and then think that they themselves are an expert because they got on a forum. "Reroute the breather tube and get like 20 horsepowerz dude!!1". People need to learn how to use forums as a tool to complement competence and experience. I swear that hear-say gets represented as fact so often (like the guy who proved, PROVED, that your body loses 23 grams of mass when you die, thus proving the existence of a soul--yeah? Have you actually read the report? Has anyone actually verified it? I didn't think so.).

Anyway, if anybody has any recommendations about how to find a stock ECU tune, I am all ears and would greatly appreciate any feedback. I honestly think the thing will run like crap if I switch back to the old system unless the ECU is retuned to its factory settings. Or maybe it won't.

Thanks!

Oh, and while I absolutely LOVE the sound of the Micron and I love the power that it frees up, it's just too damn obnoxious. I set off car alarms as I drive by cars parked on city streets! CONSTANTLY! I also hate wearing ear plugs just to prevent hearing loss on a simple commute through NYC. I also get aggravated at the fact that I have to constantly reset some berkeleying AFV value every week with ECM Spy so that the bike will A.) run in open-loop mode and B.) not respond like crap to throttle inputs in closed-loop mode. A modern vehicle should not require berkeleying - with on a weekly basis.

Since you already have ECMSpy, go here and ask for someone with the same year bike to give you a copy of their stock map: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/32777.html?1292859045

Frankly, I don't know why you'd want to undo the breather re-route, as mine has run much better, especially at lower RPMs, ever since. I'd just fix it so it didn't touch a header. But again, an easy thing to undo with a little bit of hose.

It's a good idea to wear earplugs for every ride. Just wind noise is enough to cause hearing loss.

Just keep your eye out on ebay and craigslist and you'll find a stock setup from someone who "upgraded" their bike.

The reason to reroute the breather is to keep the dirty crankcase vapor out of the intake. You just vent it to the atmosphere.

Good luck with your buell.

You'll need to log in to post.
