A month or so ago, Mrs. 914 said that if they offer an early retirement incentive at work she would take it next year. She's 61 with 40 years' service. The incentive is $25,000.
Then she says, Maybe you should go buy a bigger nicer bike so we can be comfotable in retirement.
Hold the phone here, there's a Pod in the basement isn't there? Who are you, where's the wife?
Last Thursday I picked up a 2002 BMW K-1200LT with 12,000 mile on it for $7200. It just had a 12,000 mile Service done and new tires.
After all the DMV stuff, I hopped on a 65mph highway and headed south. It took about 30 seconds to figure out the cruise control and within 5 miles I was doing 77 mph in the center lane; Carl Perkins was blasting out the four speakers and I'm banging on the gas tank singing along. The bike is incredibly stable!
Friday I met with my friend Ron and his son Dean and went for a scoot starting in the nether regions of Rennselear County and ending up 200 miles later in Manchester, Vermont.
Heated grips, heated seats and heated passenger back rest. Cruise, electric wqindshield, radio, cassette player, 6 disc CD changer, AND Reverse. Not the GoldWing type that uses the starter, this one is actually a gear in the transmission.
I'm afraid I like it! I was apprehensive at first about the linked power brakes. I got used to the power part right away, but was nervous about hitting a corner too hot and not using the rear brake to settle it down, no trail braking. When you hit either lever, both front and rear brakes engage. Saturday I took Mrs. 914 out to breakfast, had her wear an open face helmet. 35 - 45mph around the lake and then 75 mph on a highway for 15 miles or so. I wanted to see how she is effected by the wind back there. No problem!
