Looking at going into Columbus unless someone comes up with a really cool alternative, spend the night Wednesday, then get up and drive the rest of the way to the track Thursday for load in. Anyone got any suggestions for cool things to see/do/eat in the vicinity? Thanks!
Although I don't have any personal recommendations, I'll give this thread a bump for the morning crowd.
Atlas Obscura is always worth checking out if you're looking for some interesting things to do.
What kind of food do you like? I could post about 100 very good restaurants in Columbus.
One place that I've only been to once but is odd enough and good enough to justify the cost and stop is Way Down Yonder. It's awesome creole food, on the south side of Columbus, and is ~$30 for an entree. It also takes about 1.5 hours to eat there. But it's SO GOOD.
I love Mexican tacos, and my favorite tacos come from a truck. but sit-down restaurants have good options too. Biased toward the NW side of town since it's close to home: Truck: Taco Nazo at 2200 E Dublin Granville Rd, Columbus, OH 43229. Sit downs: Charritos at 4740 Reed Rd. - excellent tortas. Los Guachos at 5221 Godown Rd. - excellent al pastor (They have a couple other locations, also good). Cuco's at 2162 W Henderson Rd. - excellent margarita tradicional.
For Vietnamese food, Buckeye Pho at 761 Bethel is great.
For ideal fast food style burgers and amazing ice cream and shakes, Ritzy's at 4615 N High.
For the epitome of junkfood pizza, meaning thin crust and greasy amazing stuff, Mikey's Late Night Slice. They have a number of locations, all good.
I could go on, really I could...
Thank y'all! Way Down Yonder sounds like the ticket. I love some Creole food, I can get Mexican at home, we have more Mexican restaurants in my little town than all other restaurants combined. Already found a couple of cool things on Atlas Obscura too, thanks!
Thanks everyone! I had a great trip, I did go to Way Down Yonder, as stated, not cheap but delicious! I had some Jambalaya, some etoufee, some catfish and some wings, all delicious! I ended up in the Short North, tried to do the big head camera thing at the convention center, but apparently my head was already too big and it wouldn't work. Tried to go to the Social Club, but it was closed for a private event, so went to the Mandrake rooftop bar, that was so cool! I took a bunch of pictures of the murals as well.
Glad you liked it! I need to make it back there some time.
It was good, usual carnage, but good reports from the teams that tire wear seemed to be better. I love the track, hate the facility. I run timing and scoring, and I'm stuck in the E36 M3box on the other side of the track from the teams. And you have that really cool building where you'd be able to see so much more of the track over there rotting away.
