Last night in speaking with another member here, It was brought to my attention that many in the area have wanted an intended to attend the challenge, yet haven't. Heck I tossed together a vehicle and had it sent down and entered, without attending myself.
Welp, this is about a plan to change that for people in the area who "just haven't had the chance to go" (because that really means it just hasn't been prioritized, but you like the idea of going, if it was convenient. Reality check, when's the last time you went on a road trip 950 miles from the end destination out of convenience?
This is going to be an opportunity. An opportunity to band together as a group to reduce storage constraints, budget constraints or the time constraints to work on a project. If everybody wants to build and enter their own chassis, that's awesome. If there are people that want to jump on and be a part of a team but don't have the potential ability to feel their own car, that is 100% fine and we can make that work as well.
If you already have a car that you enter in the challenge and are within the region and want to further enable, awesome, please bring the sauce.
As far as I know, as of now we have people in Parkville, MD, Harrisburg, PA, and Hunt Valley, MD.
If you could provide some more specifics.. what types of events and where.
I am a few counties away Between Pittsburgh PA and the Mountains. Harrisburg is a bout 2.5 Hours for me and Hunt Valley is ~3.5 Hrs. I could be willing to help out if schedules allow.
Thanks!
There's no hard schedule or events, though I'll be sure be sure to post what events I'm hopping into once I mend the K member/support on the Escort.
I'm pretty terrible at keeping a garage schedule to give a head's up on what I'll be doing and when, though I do need to finish stripping down my protégé parts car and swapping the BP into the 323 within the next 6 weeks.
I'll be moving to Alexandria Virginia next month
I'm across the bay near Centreville, so maybe not close enough to be super active, but if anyone in the city needs space to store a parts car or something like that for a while, I have space.

Careful, you'll be well within the sphere of enabling and Duke has been picking up his enabling abilities greatly.
In reply to Ed Higginbotham :
Be careful floating around that one to me, as I potentially may need a place to keep the 323, which is body and prime and inoperable, until the end of March or until the protege is done being stripped.
I'm surprised more don't show to the Hunt Valley Cars and Coffee on Saturdays. I Used to hang with Hal (another one gone) there on a regular basis.
Im down in Waldorf, but young kids keep me lucky to hit a few autocrosses a year and I am looking at putting my toes into wheel to wheel land at summit point in the next few years.
Right now I am target locked on the solo national tour at FedEx field in April with the Fmod. I know gimpy (he's up by Baltimore) is also planning on being there in his CP car.
In reply to Apexcarver :
Yesssssss. Come play with us at Summit. Would be great catch up with you.
In reply to Captdownshift :
As long as you don't mind it sitting on grass under a car cover you are welcome to stash something here for a bit.
In reply to Steve_Jones :
I wasn't aware that he was even local, but I remember his post as well
In reply to PunchyWrench :
I have a questionable car cover for it
Drop me an email dzajano at g
Even though I don't need to move it for about 3 weeks, And potentially could get the protege parts car stripped by then, with the holidays, medical fun, weather and lack of daylight this time of year, It's unlikely that the protégé will be fully stripped by then. And planning and logistics earlier, especially this time of year, is better than waiting until later.
Anyone know of a place that I can keep some cars indoors?
I have a free option but it's right next Summit Point raceway and that's a 1.5hr drive. Which means, if I want to work on one of my cars then I'll need to account for at least 3hrs of driving. I don't have that kind of time lol. Plus, I'll need to keep about 2 or 3 cars. I'll be living on Fort Belvoir.
I don't mind paying.
In reply to yupididit :
I am working on getting some indoor storage and access with the ability to work on them in the Waverly neighborhood of Baltimore. However I suspect that it will not be available until May or June.
In reply to Captdownshift (Forum Supporter) :
I move in January but my 190e and XJR won't arrive until later when I'm settled in. Waverly area of Baltimore is a bit of a drive as well.
Yeah I was thinking that Waverly likely time wise will be about the same distance of Summit Point from where you'll be. The Waverly location will likely have a lift and compressor and condo over it as well though if it occurs. I will likely know more regarding its time frame and full amenities within the next two to three weeks.
In reply to Captdownshift (Forum Supporter) :
Okay let me know. I will only be there for 4 years, 5 years max.
I wish I could find a warehouse to buy and have like-minded folks rent space from me. I'm currently looking but prices are out of this world up there.
In reply to yupididit :
Might know a single space in a shop in Springfield. I think $200 a month?
Let me know and I can put you in touch with the guy.
In reply to Apexcarver :
When you say single space, does that mean like parking space size? Lol
In reply to yupididit :
Asile space in an industrial warehouse occupied by car guys only.
It has its shortcomings, but if it's any port in a storm...
warehouse in Springfield, VA. This spot is $200 per month. The renter would have a key and alarm to the shop and ability to use any of the equipment (drill press, metal shear, lathe, MIG welder, etc). The spot will allow you to do work on the car, but the car must be able to be moved, in general.
Shout out to Steve_Jones and Ed as my 323 is now at Ed's as of yesterday and the transfer of location wouldn't have been able to occur without either of them. I hope to be able to take on finishing of the paint work side of things over there in the not too distant future (because I don't care about pulling the engine first and doing it right by painting the engine bay. The door jams won't be getting love either)
I did have a bit of an idea on my drive back. Instead of getting together to discuss a book that we read over the previous month at someone's house, in the manner that a bookclub would. How about we pick a date of the month that works (autocross and race season will compro scheduling when the season comes back around) and we have a rotation of who's garage or shop we head to and take on the tasks that they're currently facing (people can swap months and if someone's doing a large task doubling up within a month is certainly feasible as well). But it'll make cumbersome or tedious jobs take place in a much easier fashion (hopefully).
In reply to Captdownshift (Forum Supporter) :
That idea is pretty awesome.
I'll be there next week. My Mercedes and Jaguar in the following months.

I have a circle of folks that have been sort of doing that for a few years...we simply call it "build days". My shop has generally been the destination for the lift, open space, and refrigerator.
We push whatever car in, and at the end of the day, always hope to drive it out. Sometimes we have been successful. Makes the work 10x faster and 20x more fun with the right folks.
I'm close to Ed, so not super close to you guys, but maybe something could work out.
Color me curious about build days.
