...but I am on a train to San Francisco. Should be there some time after 4 PM today. And I don't have a return ticket to Chicago. We'll see what happens, but if anyone knows about a Challenge Priced anything up or down the coast, I'm seriously considering driving home again. I'm a MoPar guy, but I also love the weird and the wagons. I was going to try to drive that LeMons Super Snipe back, but it needs just a bit too much for a drive home in the winter. I may just punt and snag another S series Saturn wagon. Stay tuned...
A Christmas adventure! I love it! Do you plan to camp in the city parks in a travel hammock? More infos.....

Nah. I'm travelling with my 14 year old daughter. Pretty sure she wouldn't enjoy that.
Staying at the Hyatt in Emeryville tonight and tomorrow.

Not bloody likely. A sub-$2017 vehicle needs to be simple. Or reliable. Preferably both.
Happy hunting! Keep us posted so that we can join in vicariously.
I want to do a one way to Atlanta, South Florida or TX some day.

Texas is a good trip. Austin, if you can, but there are more deals in D/FW.
Random post: There is a very large contingent of Amish families and Japanese teenagers travelling this trip. The Amish are singing Christmas carols in the observation car. The Japanese teens are not.

I think you are a bit confused as to the meaning of the term "Challenge Priced"
Or is this your way of saying you will pay for the excess over $2017?
If so, meet me at the Hyatt House in Emeryville with $5k in cash. I'll mail you whatever I have left after I'm done with this trip.
Not sure I'd want to try driving any of the northern routes over the Continental Divide in the winter time in a $2,000 car with my 14-year old daughter.
A better plan might be to buy a clean, no rust California car to drive back to Chicago to sell. Use the profits to buy that challenge car.

Who said anything about a northern route?
Still waiting for that $5k.

Browsing a few possibilities while I was a on the train. This one was interesting, bit it never mentioned if it even ran.
Regardless, the email bounced back as undeliverable.
If i wanted to take a northern route...

Yet another. From what I thought I knew, S series don't accumulate mileage while towed, so the seller's claims are a bit dubious, at best. I also don't know what is going on with the front wheels? Some sort of bearing buddy for the hubs? It was a towd, as I can see the base plate. Probably will check it out anyway.
The mileage is supposed to be lower because it was a toad behind an RV

Just got a Facebook tip. Stroked 4.0 swap. About 3 hours from here. A little damage to the right rear, unfortunately. But tempting...

Yeah. I would expect even more new breaks on the trip. I hear the breaks are expensive on them.
A Saturn? There's GTI's out there for Saturn money.

A GTI won't fit what an SW can. And repairs on the S series are easy and dirt cheap.

Too many of my friends have Saab stories about that Swedish make. And none of them are good.
Probably not going up to Reno. Haven't even scanned the Reno CL.
