Blasted 81 Chevy C30 turn signals are STILL shorted somewhere.
I have separated all sorts of connectors in an effort to isolate the issue to no effect.
At least Lucas would let the smoke out at the location of the problem, then I would repair the wires and be good to go.
But not Chevy/Delco, no, they tie you in knots without any resolution.
I knew the turn signal switch had issues so put in a new one.
Got some improvement for e-flash but still have the turn signals short.
Seems like I should be able to logic this out, but I'm not seeing it despite having a schematic in the Chiltons.

Here is where I am.
E-Flash now all work.
Parking or headlight position all work except Left front parking lights.
Left dash turn indicator on.
Turn on Left signal and Left front parking lights come on.
Dash indicator goes out.
This is with no fuse to the turn signals circuit as it just pops immediately.

Have to sort this, need to use the truck a couple more times before I sell it and no one wants to buy electrical issues.

Umm, progress, sort of.

Found that the LF light in the bumper is dual element and has its own ground, except that it did not ground.
Bad connection at the ground wire, monkeyed it to work and now I have all my running light and E-flashers working.
No more odd action from the dash indicator lamps.
But still pops the turn signal power fuse immediately.
I have removed harness sleeve looking for a short, none found.
Light is gone for the day, back at it in the morning.

MAY have found it, if it was indeed the dark blue wire to the backup switch.
Twisted with a light green companion wire and a bare area rubbing on the clutch shaft.
The one not shown in any clear manner on the Chiltons schematic.
The one where I had to take out the fuse box in order to see the backside, to know what color wire was taking load from that fuse.
And it seems virtually every wire goes to ground in some manner so the self powered test light is not that useful.
Once I have it back together I can test it, then pull it apart again if this was not the issue.

Delco, "D*** Electric Lighting Cannot Operate!"  devil

Fingers crossed

Fixed.
Ridiculously difficult as the available schematics are so very incomplete.
Sometimes we need to know what color wire runs FROM the load side of each fuse too.
Maybe the newer cars manuals are better, but if I ever buy another Chiltons slap me!
