On a 02 Sierra 2500 HD super cab long bed. Ive been trying to find the correct length intermediate cable. What shops have listed,  even gm, and what the actual length is, is way off. I've replaced the entire system. I even built one by welding 2 cables ( hollowed out a bolt to create the welded jount). Held for only several uses, as I kinda expected. So, anyone have any ideas??

Build one but use cable clamps instead of welding. I get them at the farm store (Tractor Supply) for a buck or two each. I used to shorten trucks and used them to shorten the park brake cables. Never had one slip or fail.

By cable clamps, do you mean those small u bolt clamps? And where do you buy a length of cable

If you don't like the little u-bolt things, and don't mind shipping each way, I have a Nicopress tool and sleeves. I will need to check what sizes I have, but I don't mind picking up a new size.

Yes, the little tiny u bolt clamps. You put both pieces through it and clamp it down tight and it won't slip. You'd need a proper front half and a proper rear half and have enough overlap to make your own cable of the needed length. I have never made cables from scratch. In my case I was shortening long wheel base trucks to shorter wheelbase so I'd just chop the cables shorter and connect the front half to the rear half with the clamps. I figured if you had what it took to make one by welding the pieces together that you could hopefully use the clamps instead and it wouldn't fail on you like the welded effort did.

Wouldn't a u joint work better?
