Making a Tonneau

Next up on our project Tornado Typhoon‘s to do list was to make sure the interior stayed dry at Amelia Island. We had gotten a full windshield and a hard top with the car. To say these items were a bit ungainly and ruined the sleek looks of our Tornado, was an understatement. In our opinion, Tornados look terrible with hard tops and windshields. We also did not have time to restore these features.

We decided a simple red tonneau cover with red piping would look the part and do what we would need it to do. We asked Chuck Roberts from Roberts Upholstery to help us out with this project.

We found Chuck’s work and attitude to be exemplary, especially considering the time crunch we put him under. We found some traditional automotive vinyl materials at our local fabric store and from there, Chuck went to town first making a template, and then sewing and cutting pieces until he had the right shape. Traditional snaps hold the top down and it easily made the trip to Amelia Island on an open trailer.
