The doors on an early Lotus Elan are like nothing we have ever seen. The windows slide up and down on a counter-weighted spring system, and the locking mechanism and pressed steel inside door handle is truly strange as well.
After rebuilding the locks and having Graves Plating re-chrome all the parts that were originally chromed, we set about to building the doors.
The door card is covered with plain black vinyl similar to seat material. Famous Frank’s Lotus Parts can supply this as well as the patterned lower door panel trim. The channels that these door cards slide into also guide the windows up and down.
The inside door handle is the same as an Austin Healey 3000. Moss Motors has them right in stick. The ash trays are the same as those from an early Mini.
While relatively straight forward, the entire deal has to be adjusted very carefully to get the door to shut properly and for the door windows to seal properly.
