As part of our family trip prep we decided to try out some Cool Shims. Manufactured by Four Products, these metal pieces mount behind your brake pads and, in theory, conduct heat away from your brakes. While that seems to make sense, we have no real way to test them.
We can say that having rebuilt our brakes, switch to discs at the rear, and added these Cool Shims, we have had very good brakes even coming down mountain roads in our fully loaded Mercedes. We have no intention of taking them back off. We have also had no noise or fade issues, so we like them. They are available for $99 from Pelican Parts.
