Continuing the Assembly

We now have our defrost vents in. The gauge cluster is in position and largely wired. And the steering column is installed.

With the subframes installed on our project Mini Cooper S, we could start the interior reassembly. The A pillar and C pillar trim need to be installed before you can put the front and rear glass in the car.

You also want to get your defrost vents in before you have a windshield in the car. Otherwise you will have no room to work in the windshield area.

We also wanted to get the car rolling and steering, so we installed the steering column next. But before the column goes in and blocks the dash area, we needed to at least start assembling the dash vinyl.

We now have our defrost vents in. The gauge cluster is in position and largely wired. And the steering column is installed. We have not found an original Mini Cooper S steering wheel, but we did find this fairly period correct wheel on eBay. We are still looking for an original steering wheel.

Whats that chrome sliding piece the steering drop bracket is bolted to?

That is a common aftermarket piece that drops the steering wheel to a much better driving position.
