The 2002 is loaded up on our trailer for the ride home. We taped the trunk shut to keep it from banging around during the 10-mile drive to our garage.
Installing our Rota and Vredestein wheel-and-tire package was a welcome morale booster before we got the reassembly started.
We ran the wiring back into the trunk area and rewrapped the wires with new electrical tape.
The underhood wiring is a bit of a mess as it's got oil contamination. We cleaned the wires with lacquer thinner before wrapping them up again.
The work is a lot like building a 1:1 scale model kit at this point, as we have a bare shell that needs nearly everything reattached.
We picked up our BMW 2002 from the paint shop on Friday, and the finish is beautiful. We’re now atacking the reassembly process with great excitement. The work is a lot like building a 1:1 scale model kit at this point, as we have a bare shell that needs nearly everything reattached.
This phase of the project has required us to complete a small project: Swap out the cruddy roll-around wheels and tires that we used during the painting process for the much prettier Rota RB and Vredestein package that the car will wear permanently. The new shoes were nice morale booster for the team.
Next, we started to clean and rewrap the original wiring harness with new tape and looming. The original fabric looming was disintegrating during the removal and reinstallation process, but wiping it with some lacquer thinner and a wrapping it with high-quality 3M electrical tape had the harness looking minty fresh.
