Big Wheels for Big Fun

Braid's Classic wheel centers just look right—and they're super wide to support modern Hoosier R-compounds.

One nice thing about the Braids is that they don't require spacers like the Rotas or other wheels when used with Ireland Engineering's big brake kit.

We’re seeing some light at the end of the tunnel.

We’re seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. We’ll be building the engine over the Christmas holiday and hope to have the car running by the first of the year. Once that’s done, we’re going to be shifting gears and preparing the car for SCCA’s F Street Prepared autocross class. That class includes some pretty wild allowances for suspensions and wheels—but a relatively stock BMW 2002 can still win Nationals, so we’re excited to try our hand at it.

Our first step is to find some wheels that work with Hoosier’s 255/35R13 A6 race tires—and we’re going to go with Braid three-piece wheels. These 13x9.5-inch wheels from Spain and are incredibly well made. We can’t wait to mount them up with some tires.
