Flares, RBs and Vreds

Here's how the car looks with most of the trim and bumpers stripped.

The Ireland Engineering flares will be painted, but for now you can see how they'll give the 2002 some hips.

The Vredestein Sprint Classic tires look like older tires, but they perform like more modern rubber.

When we started disassembling the 2002 for its restoration, we also began collecting a few parts needed to mock up some of the metalwork on the body. The 2002 will be getting a set of 2002 Turbo flares from Ireland Engineering, and that means we’ll need to cut into the car’s quarter panels and fenders. It’s best to complete that step before applying the final coat of paint, so we’re marking up where the flares will go and determining how they’ll look.

Why the flares? We have plans for some pretty fat rubber. For starters, our street wheel-and-tire package will include 13x8 RB alloys made by Rota paired with 205/60R13 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires.
