With the 2002's trim removed, you can see why these cars rusted—lots of nooks and crannies that collect dirt and debris.
The trunk floor is mostly there, but the combination of crash damage and rust means it would be easier to just replace it.
Now that our BMW 2002tii has been on display at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, it’s time to really begin the project in earnest.
Cue the music: The strip show begins. To prepare for rear sheet metal and trunk area repairs, we needed to strip off the bumpers, trim and fittings.
Our goal is to replace the trunk floor as well as the rear tail panel between the taillights. From there, we’ll start replacing the rocker panels. We’ll also be readying the rear quarter panels for a set of 2002 Turbo-style flares from Ireland Engineering. Lots of work ahead of us.
